Small dairy farmers lament squeeze by big milk firms
Independent dairy farmer Joseph J Oberweis of Aurora Illinois testified at USDA hearings in Chicago about a plan to raise milk support prices. He accused AMPI of backing the price increase to boost cheese profits and warned small producers are a vanishing breed due to monopoly practices. Gehling denied profit motives and said higher prices are needed to cover rising costs. Government decision expected within two weeks.
