The Sidney Volunteer Fire Department opened its headquarters to the public for Fire Prevention Week open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring live demonstrations of firefighting gear including a water gun, water curtain nozzles, hoses and blood pressure checks by EMTs. Firefighters explained spray rates and protection methods while highlighting department staffing, trucks, and district equipment.

U.S District Judge Warren Urbom is expected to deny the Nebraska attorney general's bid to restrain the U S Health, Education and Welfare Department from withholding 1.3 million dollars in Medicaid payments to Nebraska.
