SHS Student Struck by Freight Train In Serious Condition
Dan Sumner a Sidney High School senior was struck by Union Pacific freight No X 818 as he crossed tracks at 19th Avenue. He suffered a skull fracture and was listed in serious condition at Memorial Hospital. Police say Sumner was with peers rushing to class when he tripped and stepped in front of the engine.

Scouts Propose To Rejuvenate Camp Land
J H McNish told the Sidney city council that plans are under way to improve the Boy Scout camp along Lodgepole Creek west of town. Funds totaling about 4000 dollars could be released for capital improvements such as planting trees digging a well erecting a lean-to shelter and repairing fencing. The council declined to define eligible user groups now but said the matter could be resolved if needed.

Crash Victim's Body Sent To California
The body of Miss Georgia Diana Gomez, 19, killed in a one car crash southeast of Sidney, was shipped to San Bernardino, California for funeral services and interment. Gehrig & Son Funeral Home handled arrangements. Miss Gomez, a sales worker for Periodical Sales Co. Birmingham, Alabama, died when the car left Highway 19 near the sewage plant and rolled over. She is survived by her mother and several siblings in San Bernardino.

Bob Castoe, 25, 5'11", 150 lb, dark brown hair and complexion, and Chuck Davis, early twenties, 5'8", 140 lb, light brown hair and medium complexion, are named. Checks in Sidney totaled five for 45 dollars, two for 41 dollars, and one over 40 dollars, all signed H. P. Mortenson dated Oct 5 and passed at several stores. The Kimball check for 47.67 was drawn on American National Bank of Kimball to Castoe, signed H. P. Mortenson. Scottsbluff authorities are seeking leads. no checks reported there yet.
