Jack Roddy assistant manager at Montgomery Ward Sidney acted quickly to stop a 230 volt electric shock incident at the Osborn Garage storage house. He leapt into a pit to grab the elevator cable and halt the platform just before it could crush H J Carlson of Denver Otis Elevator. Carlson was left dazed but uninjured. Roddy’s Navy Marine Corps training noted by manager H D Stirling prompts Carnegie Medal praise.

Two automobile accidents this week reported by Chief Harvey Vizina involved limited damage. Fred J. Beyer of Sidney in a 1947 Buick on U.S. Highway 30 backed into J B Karnik of Sidney in a 1941 Ford coupe parked in a lot, about $35 damage. On Linden Street a blinded driver, Mrs. F L Hester in a 1946 International pickup, struck Bob Foster in a 1942 Willys sedan. Foster did not see the pickup in time.

Fertilizer Raises Wheat Yield but May Reduce Grain Quality
Nitrogen fertilizer applied to winter wheat on the E A Anderson farm in spring 1947 increased yield by 3 percent over an untreated area. However grain quality appeared lowered as excessive growth delayed ripening and moisture later in summer hindered proper filling of larger berries and longer heads.

Coyote Bounty Law Change Clarifies Wolf Wildcat Fox Rules
Cheyenne County Clerk I L Pindell publishes a notice to clarify the bounty law effective September this year. Any person who kills wolves wildcats foxes or coyotes and presents the green scalps with two ears and face down to the nose to the county clerk with written oath will receive 2 50 per scalp. Certificates are issued by the clerk and bounties paid on presentation to County Treasurer Herbert Stevens.

Driver Snoozes Trigger Sunol Auto Crash
Ray Wilt a taxi driver driving a 1936 Ford slept after 24 hours on the road and lost control Monday night at the west edge of Sunol. The car veered off the road then overturned after swerving about 300 feet. Wilt had no injuries and about 150 dollars in damages occurred.
