Shortage of Labor Skills Noted in September for Sidney Region
The Nebraska State Employment Service office in Sidney reports shortages in service workers construction laborers and clerical workers in September. Overall labor supply balanced in most fields though non agricultural demand rose 35 percent versus September 1956 with 175 calls and 158 placements across mining contract construction utilities and trades. 169 workers were referred to farm jobs across Cheyenne Kimball Banner and Devel counties. In the month 1 074 individuals contacted the Sidney office with 270 women and 221 veterans among applicants and 71 tests conducted.

Rainy Weather Benefits Wheat and Beet Harvest Delays
Rainy damp conditions favor the winter wheat crop and have not hampered the Panhandle sugar beet harvest. Beet digging began this week and will run into November with high beet quality and above average sugar content. Corn looks good statewide as rains improve topsoil moisture, though some fields remain soggy. Very little 1957 wheat has been stored due to favorable prices and market sentiments in the Sidney area.

Wheat Measuring Start Scheduled for Cheyenne County
The start of the annual fall wheat measuring in Cheyenne County may begin this week. A meeting is set for tomorrow at the County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation office to discuss the plan. ASC officials will meet 26 men who form 13 two man measuring teams. Two Theft Reports Filed With Sidney Police
