Funeral Held Thursday For Slain Woman Louise Thomas

Alliance man James Anderson, 48, was sentenced to life for the shotgun slaying of Louise May Thomas after pleading guilty to second degree murder. He admitted firing during a drinking party when she took whiskey, dying hours later. Anderson fled but was captured next morning and the case wrapped with a swift district court plea.

Members of the Cheyenne County Rural Youth group returned Tuesday from the national convention held at East Bay Camp Lake Bloomington Illinois Kenny Andersen and Miriam Helfrich attended from Cheyenne County Other Nebraska youth included were Barbara Farber of Scottsbluff Muriel Davis Syracuse Harold Harroun Nebraska City Frank Sibert Lincoln Robert Jonas Schuyler and Norman Bless Madison The group traveled by auto The convention began Wednesday of last week Two conferences were held in the morning and a conference and workshop each afternoon After dinner speeches and an evening of dancing completed the convention days The theme Under the Same Sun stressed international relations Delegates attended from Austria Belgium England France Formosa Luxembourg Switzerland Norway Netherlands Paraguay Canada and the Philippine Islands Miriam Helfrich said it was like a UN meeting The Nebraska group stopped in Peoria Illinois to tour the Caterpillar factory They spent Sunday and Monday following the convention as guests of Mr and Mrs Ralph Wier at Lacon Illinois

300th Member Is Tough to Crack in Sidney Chamber

Secretary George Kolzow and Ralph Welch of the Sidney Chamber of Commerce celebrated reaching an all time high of 300 members. Gus Hellbush, longtime local businessman, rejoined after a two year lapse, agreeing to sign when the roll hit 300. Hellbush’s return was marked with a ceremony at his Battery Electric Service, with Kolzow and Welch in attendance, and his card now on display.

Condition Of Ralph Osborn Improves After Gun Incident

The head injury of local insurance man Ralph Osborn from a .45 bullet at his Cheyenne County home Tuesday evening was reported improved Thursday. Sheriff W W Schulz believes Osborn, handling a large gun collection, accidentally discharged the weapon while alone. He remains under close medical watch for possible complications. His parents discovered him a half hour after the shooting. his wife was notified and returned home from California.

Prominent Pioneer Dies At Redington

Fred Gilman 77 a Redington area figure died Saturday night in Bridgeport. Services were held Tuesday at Bridgeport Presbyterian Church with LDS elders in charge. Interment at Redington Cemetery. Born March 26, 1876 in Fenimore Wisconsin he moved to Nebraska in 1886 and lived in Redington most his life. He married Stella Trowbridge March 26 1900. Survived by wife and two sons Oscar W Tacoma Washington and Ralph R Vancouver Washington.

Rip Cords to perform in Cheyenne concert tonight

The Rip Cords of Cheyenne join the Lar amie Boomerangs at a Barbershop Quartette Concert tonight in the City Auditorium. The event starts at 8 pm, is sponsored by the Sidney Jaycees, with proceeds supporting next spring’s Midget Baseball Program. Advance tickets are selling. admission is 75 cents for adults and 35 cents for children under 12. The group will also be heard on KSID radio Friday evening prior to the show.

Sidney public schools adopt nine week report cards for elementary

Cheyenne County banks report total deposits of 14,352,636.30 as of September 30, led by American National Bank of Sidney with 8,007,094.45 and Sidney National Bank at 1,614,312.14.
