The Sidney Volunteer First Aid Rescue Unit operates with about 16 trained volunteers offering extensive services from drownings and heart attack aid to coal bin rescues and poisonous gas exposure. Their equipment inventory mirrors a combined fire department and ambulance outfit and includes a 1938 vehicle converted to an ambulance.

Ford Highlights Falcon in Thursday Public Viewing

Ford plans a Thursday public viewing of fifteen 1960 models at Gibson Ford led by the Falcon new-sized model. The Falcon, two feet shorter and a fraction heavier than 1959, aims for greater fuel economy with a 90 hp six cylinder engine and 17 percent more windshield area in standard trim. Sidney sees break in expected September labor demand decline

SidneyNebraska office reports September non agricultural labor demand near September 1958 levels and a rise from August. 1 061 people contacted the office with 304 women and 188 veterans. 191 orders covering 241 workers included 225 industrial jobs across mining construction manufacturing utilities wholesale and retail trades finance and private households and 52 referred to agricultural work.

Sidney launches five year armor coating of city streets

City of Sidney begins a five year armor coating program to pave about fifty blocks this year and repeat the process annually. The plan, explained by City Manager Tom Coffey, aims to extend pavement life and reduce maintenance costs. Oiling should finish Thursday if weather allows. reworking and rolling of gravel continues next week. Western Bridge and Construction Company of Omaha performs the work.

Polio cases rise among Nebraska youth in week

Six new polio cases were reported in Nebraska for the past week by the State Health Department. All victims were under 20. The year total reached 121 compared with 22 at this time last year, and three of the new cases were paralytic.

Panhandle County Agents Meet in Sidney Planning Conference

Panhandle County Agricultural and Home Agents will meet at the 4 H building in Sidney for a two day planning conference. Chet Walters of Scottsbluff and Elmer John of Lincoln will supervise the program planning. About 25 people are expected to attend. First Reenlistment Processed At Sioux Ordnance Depot

Specialist 4 Leonard J Krimmer of the Army Medical Corps reenlisted for six years at Sioux Ordnance Depot, the first time the depot handled discharge and reenlistment in its 17 year history. Krimmer, a lab technician, has 12 years service with eight to retirement, including overseas time in France and Korea. He lives in Oroville with wife Mildred Robertson Leper and son Joe Pat.
