Kids theme chosen for Sidney school bond campaign

The slogan KIDS Keep Improving District Schools was selected for the bond election campaign. Sidney is divided into North South and Central Elementary areas with principals organizing small group meetings. Voters must register by Oct 15.

Sidney school board weighs local language competency test

The Sidney school board will review a locally written language competency test at its November meeting to decide whether to attach it to graduation requirements. The test, two parts with a 15 minute oral section and a three-evaluator written section, targets ninth and eleventh graders around February and would not be a graduation prerequisite in 1978.

Robbery at Jack and Jill Store on 14th and Jackson

Morning theft at the Jack and Jill store where over $1,000 in checks, currency and coins were taken from a tin cash box. Owner Jack Headley said the loss occurred between 5:30 and 6 and the shop door was found unlocked from the outside as he discovered the missing box after returning from the office.

SPNRD approves Oliver project land appraisals

The South Platte Natural Resources District board meeting in Sidney approved appraisals totaling 217 215 for 367 acres of private land and about 760 acres of irrigation district and school lands needed for the Oliver Dam project.
