Two thefts and an attempted break in were reported to Sidney Police over the past week. Plains Drive-In Theatre found a failed entry attempt on a restroom door Sunday with only door damage. Linda Cole of Sidney reported two white headrests marked Bob stolen from her car downtown between 10 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Kokjer Motor Company said a stereo tape player was stolen from a 1967 model car on their lot Friday night.

Harold Easom Nebraska Highway Commission announces opening of the eastbound I 80 lane between Sutherland and Hershey and the westbound lane between North Platte and Hershey at noon October 10. Eastbound traffic will turn south from U S 30 at Sutherland to join the interstate. westbound traffic will exit at Hershey to continue on Highway 30. Main paving of the Sutherland Paxton segment should finish next week, weather permitting, with shoulder work and grading depending on conditions.

Nebraska residents may soon buy liquor by the drink on Sundays under LB809, which lifts some Sunday selling restrictions. The measure authorizes Class C licenses to sell from 6 p.m. Sunday to 1 a.m. Monday with local approval, and allows non profit clubs to sell at noon on Sundays while remaining closed one additional day. Off sale by non profits remains illegal. the law takes effect Oct. 23 due to no emergency clause.

Fire Crews Battle Multiple Grass and Field Fires Near Sidney
Friday at 3 23 p m Sidney Volunteer Fire Department fought a seven mile south fire on farm land with stubble and baled hay causing about 40 dollars in damage. Saturday late night ten 50 p m crews fought five acres of grass near the Burlington right of way and later four acres on Harold Kettler farm seven miles north. A cigarette tossed from a passing car was blamed for one blaze. Sunday at 5 36 p m a grass fire near Sioux Villa was extinguished.

Turns Blamed For 2 Wrecks On Route 30
Four South Dakota women were injured when a 1951 truck collided with a 1967 sedan on Highway 30 east of Sidney. Hilda Beltman suffered a fractured wrist and other injuries. three Beltman passengers also sustained injuries. A second, similar accident nearby involved Firth Booth Jr and Jesse Wortman with no injuries.
