Prisoners Nearly Wreck County Jail During Escape Attempt
Sheriff McDaniel and deputies sheltered three Devel and two Cheyenne county prisoners en route to Lincoln and Hastings. An escape attempt used saws and a stolen stick. jail is wrecked and the prisoners face reformatory transfer, with fears of further escapes. George W. Coolidge Caravan to Visit Sidney Tuesday Evening
The Coolidge caravan on a coast to coast tour will arrive in Sidney next Tuesday evening October 7. Nine automobiles and thirty men travel with ex-Congressman A. W. Jefferis and H. L. Moore among speakers. They will be greeted by Sidney residents, escorted to town, speak from the court house steps if weather permits, and music from a local band. The group stays the night and departs the next morning.

The Sidney Juvenile band will travel to Sterling Friday afternoon at 4 o clock to perform a concert as a return visit for a recent Sterling Juvelle band concert. Cars will be reused to transport the boys, and they will join Sterling Chamber of Commerce guests for supper.

Father and Son Stricken by Acute Appendicitis Near Sidney
Michael Schwartz, a prominent farmer from the Bunker Hill district near Sidney, and his 12 year old son Francis were rushed to Sterling Hospital Saturday night and underwent early Sunday surgery for acute appendicitis. The father also had gall bladder stones removed. Both are reported to be recovering well by Dr Roche and a Sterling surgeon. Francis fell ill Friday night and his father the next morning with acute appendicitis and gall bladder trouble.

Bentley Dairy Herd Sold At Public Auction
About ninety head of Holstein dairy stock sold Wednesday at the J A Bentley ranch west of Sidney as the owner closes out the dairy business. The herd included milking cows and young stock with cows averaging $50 to $75. Walter Peters of Gurley was likely the largest buyer with eight cows, among others such as W C Fastenau George Kavanaugh H A Hippen Henry Vick and several more.
