Varied Program Set For Dental Meeting

Major Albert C Jerman of the US Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine will headline the West District Dental Society meeting in Sidney this weekend. The schedule features an Apollo 11 NASA film, golf at Hillside, a Dutch Lunch, a 2 pm program by Dr Jerman on Dentistry in the Aerospace Age, a banquet with Dr Doug Parks speaking, and a Monday morning session concluding at noon.

County Farm Bureau Sets Annual Meeting Tuesday

Cheyenne County Farm Bureau schedules its annual meeting for next Tuesday evening at 7 30 in the Kansas Nebraska Gas Co meeting room. Robert A Thompson Nebraska Farm Bureau executive secretary treasurer will be main speaker. Francis H Runge will conduct the meeting and report on the year. Officers delegates policy recommendations and nominating committee report to be discussed. Coffee and rolls to follow.

Sunday Open House Heralds Head Start Week in Sidney

The new Head Start headquarters on First Street in Sioux Villa opens this Sunday from 2 to 4 pm to mark Head Start Week October 5 to 9, proclaimed by Mayor Bob Hossle. Coffee, cookies, and a door prize welcome the public as twenty preschoolers, mainly four years old, prepare for school.

Interstate 80 progress near Kimball complete by 1973

The Western Nebraska Observer reports I-80 work from Bushnell to Kimball advancing with concrete finishing this fall and the six mile west of Kimball to Wyoming nearing opening next July. Bridge work on Highway 71 progresses toward fall opening while sand and limestone stockpiles near Kimball await paving. Governor Norbert Tiemann says Nebraska will be first to finish its Interstate system, with completion early in 1973.

Health Center Opens Monday In Sidney

A new La Pettite Health Center will open in Sidney Monday October 5 at 821 12th Ave offering separate ladies and men’s hours. Ladies use 8 am to 4 pm while men use 4 pm to 8 pm. The facility features seven large machines for weight loss and body toning, plus a sauna, a roller massager, vibrator belt, trim cycles, electro-cycle, setup boards, weight lifters, and a jogger guided by Mrs. Ken Pittam, Mrs. M. Evane, Bob Roach, and Bob Selzer.

1 400 Feet Of Oil Recovered At Newest Well

Nebraska's latest oil find in Morrill County shows Ackman Schulein Roosevelt and Associates recovered 1,400 feet of oil and about 300 feet of water in a J sand drillstem test. Production casing has been run to test the well's potential. The No 1 Durnal sits SE NW Sec 30 20 52, ten to twelve miles west of Bridgeport Field.

Mrs Haven Smith left Tuesday for Richmond Virginia where she addressed the National Convention of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons at the John Marshall Hotel. Cheyenne County Farm Income Tops 22 Million in 1969

Cheyenne County farmers posted a total gross income of 22 099 000 for 1969, up 39 percent from 1964. Strong livestock demand and rising meat prices boosted earnings, while grain income grew slowly. Half of receipts came from crops and the rest from livestock poultry and dairy, with government payments and on-farm consumption added.

DC3 Acquired For Study At Vo-Tech

The aeronautics department at Western Nebraska Vocational Technical School received a military DC3 for campus display and hands on study. Air Force pilots from Minneapolis delivered the heavy twin engine plane, with plans for a D18 Beechraft from Sioux City and jet aircraft arrivals later. The runway is being upgraded for safety and the school seeks Unicameral funds for dust control.

Alliance reports the wheat referendum threatens farmers with large losses whether they vote yes or no. Howard Watson notes a yes vote could trigger 150 million in income loss and a no vote 640 million, with penalties for over planting. Class C Liquor Licenses Denied by City Council

CHAPPELL The city council refused to approve Class C liquor licenses for liquor by the drink at a Sept 29 special meeting and will urge the state liquor commission to reject the requests. Sidney Fire Department was busy in September answering four rural calls causing $1,075 in damage, two city calls totaling $3,000, one false alarm, and one rescue. They tested 4400 feet of 24 and 800 feet of 11 hose. Also announced Oct 15 six weeks of First Aid classes.

Famed Tractor Display Is Sold

Alliance farmer Arch Daugherty sold 100 antique tractors to Earl Mahanka of Dowagha Michigan. Mahanka already owns 50 tractors and aims to create the United States’ largest farm museum. An Alliance antique tractor firm formed four years ago to fund the project, but financial troubles prevented completion.
