City manager Maynard Dils said Sidney's electrical plant was cut off natural gas by Kansas- Nebraska Natural Gas Co. Lights will be on tonight and Saturday nights during store hours but off during the week until fuel supplies are clarified.
A high pressure dome over Manitoba pushes eastward shaping Nebraska weather. Eastern areas see light snow flurries with teens and 20s, while western regions stay clear and cold. A warming trend begins Saturday with weekend highs in the 20s to 30s and lows near zero to 10 above.
Sheep producers voting by a wide margin approved extending the national wool promotion campaign through 1977, per USDA. Preliminary mail referendum results show 40,181 in favor and 6,829 opposed among 46,010 total ballots. The American Sheep Producers Council runs the program under a cooperative agreement with USDA, funded by deductions from federal payments up to 1.5 cents per pound for shorn wool and 7.5 cents per pound for unshorn lambs sold for slaughter.
A paced fire-rescue truck arrived this week at Sidney Municipal Airport as part of a 300000 improvement project. The unit includes foam chemicals for petroleum fires, a snow blade, and general rescue gear. State's top planner W. Don Nelson urged the Legislature to adopt fundamental land use planning decisions, warning of a possible federal push to require states to act. He said most decisions will remain local, while protecting prime agricultural land and guiding development in flood plains, major subdivisions, and regional projects.

Nichol leads with 2,546 votes, Carpenter 2,478, Wilson 207 percent. Carpenter seeks legal counsel before possible court action.
