Local notes recount a flurry of Thanksgiving gatherings across Sidney and nearby towns. Families such as the Brachtenbachs, Jorgensons, and Sebolds hosted relatives from Denver, Fort Morgan, Lincoln, and Omaha, with guests visiting Centerville and Lodgepole.
Cub Scout parents and den chiefs met at Mrs Glen Yauney home with fourteen present deciding to have new scouts take the crusade pledge at a candle lighting during the December 29 pack meeting along with a flag ceremony. A Christmas party was planned for a later date and Theron Jones was named to arrange it. A grab bag and white elephant sale were planned with gifts under fifty cents for scouts and parents respectively. A refreshments committee was formed and den chiefs will handle entertainment. The next round table is set for December 10 at Mr and Mrs Harold Katz home.
The Rev. Mr. Reed opens prophecy meetings Wednesday at 7:30 PM and Thursday at 7:30 PM in the Oddfellow Hall, Sidney. He has spoken in Mitchell and Scottsbluff and is urged for attendance as he presents Bible prophetic insights for today.
Lt Col James Baker and Mrs Baker with Mrs Rose Levy spent Monday in Scottsbluff. Lt Col Charles W Clegg Lt Col Hartwell T Bynum and Maj Charles E Page from Fifth Army Headquarters Chicago are business visitors at the depot. Mr and Mrs Harold Katz Major Gilbert Levy and Mrs Rose Levy spent Saturday in Scottsbluff.
Cheyenne County Rural Youth officers will meet at 7:30 p m Friday night in the George Fleming home. Members may also join an inter county Rural Youth party at Grant tonight meeting at the Sidney post office at 5 30 p m.
The Rev Park Reed of Canton Oklahoma will bring interesting and vital messages to public meetings in the area. Local congregations announce his visits as part of a religious outreach effort planned to engage communities.
A two car collision at 6 10 Thursday at the intersection of Hickory and 9th streets caused heavy damage. George E Wood of Sidney driving a 1949 Oldsmobile four door and Delmar Waln of Holyoke Colorado driving a 1937 Ford coupe were involved. Police say the Ford failed to see the Oldsmobile when turning from Hickory onto 9th, lights out, causing the crash. Damages were estimated at 95 dollars for the Oldsmobile and 30 dollars for the Ford.
