Work on New Tavern Is Progressing Well
Aubrey Haines, owner, reports the construction of the Silver Dollar tavern is progressing, with hopes to finish by Christmas or year’s start. The old building was torn down, a new roof going on, and walls rebuilt with a buff brick front and large plate glass windows. The fore part will be 20 feet longer, fixtures are modern, including a tile floor, upholstered booths and tables, a new bar, back bar, and restrooms at the rear.

Drilling halted at 5 047 feet of the George No 1 wildcat well ten miles west of Sidney after core tests showed no oil. Former Resident Dies in Denver at 71
William Brandert 71, formerly of Sidney Nebr, died November 22 at Denver General Hospital. Services were held November 26 at Redeemers Lutheran Church. He moved from Fremont to Sidney in the early 1930s and later to Denver with his wife Anna Korsmeyer in 1939. He worked as farm laborer in Sidney and later for Gates Rubber in Denver before retiring due to illness. Survivors include his widow, a daughter Joan Venezig of Pueblo, five stepchildren and several siblings.
