Residents of School District No. 1 Cheyenne County Nebraska prepare for a bond issue to enlarge and remodel the Senior High School. The measure funds construction, equipment, and a cafeteria study area with a 312090 principal, repayable over up to 20 years. Votes taken at existing general election sites from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with swift post election counting expected.
Regulations for absentee and disabled voters differ from a regular election. Ballots and applications available from the Board of Education Office in the Junior High Building. Absentee deadline is two days before the election, and disabled voter deadline is 4 p.m. on election day. To vote one must be a US citizen, 21 or older, own or whose spouse owns property in the district, and have district school age children.
Colorado State Patrol logged five weekend crashes near Lodgepole and U.S. routes with one injury, two vehicle damages at a bridge intersection, and several minor collisions. Names include Joseph McGee, Fred Leachman, Asher Reeond, Lewis, and Holand with damages totaling around $1,550.
Gayle Sample begins duties Monday as Cheyenne County's new extension agent. A Scottsbluff native and Colorado State University graduate, she comes from Morrill where she taught home economics for two years and has been active in 4-H and Rural Youth. She replaces Beverly Siffring, who resigned in September to move to Bridgeport.
Nebraska's 24 largest cities urged a change in policy that forces them to fund and maintain 137 miles of state highways within city limits while state funds are used for 9,162 miles elsewhere. Chauncey Barney of Lincoln called the policy inequitable and discriminatory at a State Advisory Highway Commission meeting. The Sidney city administration backed studying the issue.
Northwestern Bell reports a check of 29185 19 to county treasurer for the first half 1962 federal property taxes. Manager R Mller notes Nebraska telephone taxes total about 330 per month per phone, up from 245 in 1950, with overall Nebraska telephone taxes and fees reaching over 2,129,000.
An Omaha tourist nominates Sidney as the most colorfully lighted city coast to coast. A card to Mayor Dean Wilson from Candy Tollander praises Sidney’s Christmas decorations along the wall and notes travel from New York to California.
Mayor Dean Wilson, trustee for the Hubert Culler property, backs a plan by Calvin Klentz to install a deep water well, shelter windbreak trees, a prefab metal building around an old fireplace, and barbed wire fencing at the scout camp west of Sidney. Estimated cost 2282.25 dollars with discounts and volunteer labor expected to cut expenses.
Sheriff W W Schulz reported rural vandalism cases since hunting season began. A vacant farm home owned by Drvide Bewley near Gurley four miles southeast was struck when a shotgun blast removed the front door lock and intruders shot at paint cans and other objects. Damage totals and suspects are undetermined as investigators follow leads.
Cheyenne County Agent Ivan Liljegren spoke in North Platte at the annual Lincoln County Leader Achievement Banquet. He was joined by Terra Spiker, president of the local 4-H Leaders, as they screened films from the Citizenship Trip to Washington DC.
CAP announces two rock shoots at the Wil Municipal Port on Sunday December 1 and another day in December. Proceeds fund CAP activities in the community. Public participation invited.
Community spirit shines at the Pancake Day event in Sidney with Lions Club hosts and Quaker Oats promoting Aunt Jemima products. About 1600 fed, 5000 sausages served, 120 gallons of mix, 35 gallons syrup, and 192 dozen eggs, plus extensive donations and entertainment. Final totals to be announced next week.

Senator Carl T Curtis told Sidney Rotarians that federal deficits have occurred in 26 of the last 32 years and warned private business would fail under similar conditions. He opposed Medicare as weaker than Kerr Mills, urged state local control, and noted rising government medical dominance. Cheyenne County recorded the only oil producer in western Nebraska this week as Falcon Seaboard and Stuarco Oil Co. ran production casing at the No 1 Buhrdorf in the West Frei area north of Potter after recovering 600 feet of gassy oil from 5483 to 5494 feet in the J section. Wells plugged included the No 1 Thompson near Dalton and the No 1 Kreader and No 1 Boman in Morrill County. Nebraska’s weekly oil output averaged 68 431 barrels, matching the yearly pace per the Nebraska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.
The Cheyenne County Certified Wheat Seed Growers held a dinner meeting at Lodgepole Methodist Church where Dean Lancaster of the Nebraska Crop Improvement Association outlined progress on a hybrid wheat. He noted two college scientists have made gains and stressed the need for ongoing wheat research. Attendees included 1963 State Wheat Queen Miss Chantall Misagadis and local extension agents.
Local authorities from North Platte will attend a Federal Bureau of Investigation conference at the North Platte Fire Hall. Sheriff W. W. Schulz Deputy Sheriff Kermit Brumbaugh and Chief of Police Sol Willis are listed as participants. The panel includes Chief Willis and the event is part of a November series in Iowa and Nebraska.
Mrs. Howard Welch aged 87 and mother of Ralph Welch died at her Dryden New York home last Friday November 23 Funeral services were held Sunday in Dryden She is survived by three daughters her son Ralph and several grandchildren Her husband died twelve years ago Mr Welch left Dryden Saturday for Dryden and planned to return Thursday
