Twelve members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary from Sidney attended the district meeting at Kimball on Sunday with attendees from Scottsbluff Bridgeport Lisco Lyman Kimball and Sidney. Life Magazine photographer Richard Crane spent a week at the Storz Ducklore Lodge near Lisco in a goose blind to capture images for a forthcoming issue. Crane, 6 feet 4 inches, required a special blind to move and photograph geese and hunters. A Swiss native with 16 years in the U S he previously worked for the New York Times and has covered major events including the Hindenburg and royal funerals. FCC Grants Permit for Sidney Radio Station
The FCC issued a permit to The Sidney Broadcasting Co. for a new standard radio station in Sidney to operate on 1540 kilocycles, 250 watts, daytime only. The company is led by William Groves of Cheyenne and his brother Lewis of Denver. It was unclear if construction would begin this winter or in spring. Tourist Car Damaged In Early Morning Wreck Near Sidney
A tourist car sustained about 350 dollars in damage in a 6:15 am crash on Highway 30 near Sidney Nebraska. Edward McLachlin of Maywood New Jersey, 32, drove a 1950 Ford westbound and, after pulling onto the slick north shoulder, lost control. The car veered into a borrow pit and struck a telephone pole. McLachlin was uninjured.
