Utex Oil Company of Salt Lake City started a wildcat test twenty miles west of Sidney on Fran cis Egging’s Potter property. Frontier Drilling Co of Denver drills the NE 8W Section 22 14 52 location three miles south and a mile and a half east of Potter. Egging owns three quarters in Section 22 with Paul L Martin owning the remaining quarter. The drill aims to test the Dakota and Lakota sands if needed. An earlier Potter oil test using cable tools failed to reach the sands.

Storage Tanks Escape Blaze Near Huntsman Oil Docks
Fire departments from Sidney and Gurley responded to a pump house blaze at The Ohio Oil Co loading docks two miles north of Huntsman. A 7:30 p.m. call reported fire endangering two large storage tanks filled to a 3,000 barrel capacity. one tank was full and the other half full. A worker said he had just filled a truck and left before the fire reached the area. Earlier, Sidney units fought a dirt extinguished oil separator blaze at Elsasser farm and three weeks earlier battled damage at the Feldman-Elsasser well site.

SOD Worker Hurt In 20-Foot Tumble
Robert Coffey a 34 year old Northwestern Engineering employee at the Sioux Ordnance Depot suffered a 20 foot fall from a trestle after contact with a high tension wire. He received a concussion skull fracture scalp lacerations a punctured lung and other injuries. He remained in critical condition then improves at a local hospital. A mass movement of 105 mm shells from Sioux Ordnance Depot to an ordnance renovation plant in Savannah Illinois is under way. About 26,900,000 pounds of shells have been ordered moved by truck in weekly shipping schedules. Large trucks labeled Explosives pass through Sidney daily. Sidney Council Backs 12th to 13th Ave Subway Route
The Sidney city council recommended the Union Pacific subway be built on 11th Avenue, with the 12th to 13th Avenue diagonal as first alternate between Illinois and Forrest Streets.
