Grade school students at St Patrick’s Academy formed the Catholic Students Mission Crusade and held their first meeting on Wednesday November 26. Junior Red Cross Drive Raises 150
Sidney school students contributed nearly 150 in the 1947 Junior Red Cross membership drive led by Miss Marie Nicholson. Ward totals included North 9.47 East 45.97 Junior high 41.35 and senior high 52.29. Local funds support veterans hospitals and overseas gifts. Plans include 75 gift boxes and 100 tray covers by fifth graders for Fort Meade. A France student praised last year’s gift box and the overseas work continues with renewed effort.

Parole violator returned to county jail
Glenn Lauer of Alliance was arrested at Morrill on a parole violation from Cheyenne County. Sheriff Schulz ordered him held in county jail. Lauer had been arrested July 31 for burglarizing the Hahiler Liquor Store and was paroled August 12.

Escapee pair halted by shotgun blast near Sidney
Two Nebraska Industrial School escapees from Kearney, 14 year old Herbert Mouton of Port Arthur Texas and 18 year old Gilbert Mace of Denver, were captured after a 95 mile an hour chase east of Sidney. A shot pierced a rear tire, stopping the stolen 1947 Dodge. They later admitted possessing a stolen 38 automatic and were jailed awaiting Kearney officials.

Wheat Show To Stand On Its Own Feet In Sidney

David E. Ells is named a volunteer reemployment rights committeeman to aid veterans in obtaining rights under the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940 and related laws. George M. Large Ranch Bought for Game Shooting by State
The Tamarach Ranch between Sterling and Julesburg, 13000 acres along six miles of the South Platte, sold from Clyde A. Linch to the Colorado Game and Fish Department as a public shooting ground for ducks and pheasants and an antelope herding area. Financed mainly with Pittman Robertson funds, possession is due by January 1, 1948, and ready for the duck season’s second half, December 2 to 15. The tract, near Jumbo Reservoir, will host 300 to 400 antelope and will be managed under state and United States Fish and Wildlife Service regulations.

Improper Parking Leads to Accident in County Hearing
In a hearing before County Judge Robert A. Barlow Pa tricko Estrada of Sidney was found guilty of improper parking on the highway. He was fined 10 dollars plus 5.25 dollars in costs. Estrada was arrested after a collision at about 10:30 Saturday night when his unlighted 1931 Chevrolet was parked on the highway near the emergency airport west of town, and Geo. Baird driving a Plymouth from the east failed to see it and struck it.
