Whitesides Bond Is Set At 500 Dollars
Richard N. Whitesides was arrested Tuesday by Deputy Sheriff Arnold Braasch on a charge of passing a bogus check at the county treasurer's office last September. At a Friday preliminary hearing before County Judge Robert A. Barlow, Whitesides pled not guilty when the judge entered the plea, and he was bound over to the district court on a $500 bond after being identified by clerk June Short who recalled the September incident.

CAA Station Change Urged for Sidney Airport
The city airport commission seeks to move the CAA intermediate communications station to Sidney’s municipal airport. The state aeronautics board plans to have runways and related work finished by December 31, 1948, with lighting and power from REA by next spring. The move would provide full radio, lighting, and weather services at no city cost.

Escapees Claimed After Wild Chase Through Sidney
Officials from the State Industrial School at Kearney claimed Herbert Mouton 14 of Port Arthur Texas and Gilbert Mace 18 of Denver after their escape from the reform school. A pursuit by State Highway Patrolman Urban C. Gay Sheriff Schulz Deputy Braasch and Police Chief Vizina ended when a tire was shot out east of Sidney. The pair had stolen a 1947 Dodge from Earl Thomas of Kearney and earlier fled from a Roscoe gas station without paying. Thomas recovered the car in Sidney.

McCoy Sentenced for Forgery by Nebraska Court
Cecil C. McCoy, 57, of Bridgeport, pleaded guilty to forgery and was sentenced to three years at the Nebraska State Penitentiary in Lincoln. He also fined $1 plus costs. McCoy forged the name of former employer A. J. Sargent to two checks totaling $38.20, and was held in county jail after arrest by Chief Harvey S. Vizina. He has prior forgery convictions in 1944 and 1946 in Bridgeport and Sidney, the latter involving Sargent’s name. McCoy entered state penitentiary in June 1946 and was released on March 14.

Parole Violator Sentenced to One Year in Nebraska Penitentiary
Glenn Lauer of Alliance received a one year term at the Nebraska State Penitentiary in Lincoln after pleading guilty to a parole violation from Cheyenne County Sheriff W. W. Schulz. A Friday hearing before District Judge J. L. Tewell followed his Morrill arrest last Tuesday. He had earlier been jailed on July 31 for burglary of the Hahler Liquor store after being placed on parole August 12.
