Only 60 of 192 federal housing units are occupied in Alliance. Local dealers say the units could house all needy families within a week if released. A city survey found eight apartments available and no houses. Hargraves of the Building & Loan reports about 25 weekly housing applications, mainly for homes around $5,000, but few new houses exist.

Car Stolen Sunday. Leads Point to Suspect
A 1939 Ford owned by Fred Vach of Potter was stolen Sunday morning and not recovered by yesterday. The car, license 38-227, may have been fueled from a farm fuel barrel. Deputy Arnold Braasch said police were given a tip about a man suspected in the theft, though his whereabouts were unknown.

Former County Resident James Ward Dies in Los Angeles
Funeral services were held at Hotchkiss Colorado November 16 for James Ward of Crawford Colorado who died of a heart attack November 11 while visiting a daughter in Los Angeles MX. Ward had been in poor health and his wife and son had taken him to California for his health. He was well known in Bléney, having lived on a ranch near Dalton with his mother Catherine Ward many years ago. His sister Mrs P J Dalton joined sister Mrs T Bowen of Denver in meeting Mrs Ward and her son who went Grand Junction and accompanied them to Hotchkiss for the funeral.

Carl Bergstrom Dies Former Sidney Resident
Carl Bergstrom, a former well known resident of Sidney, died Saturday morning in Santa Monica California. He had been in failing health for some time and formerly worked as a traveling representative for an oil company based in Sidney. He and Mrs. Bergstrom ran a hotel on the north side and later moved to Scottschoif. Bergstrom went to California about a year ago after an operation in Denver.

Western Nebraska counties show more activity in real estate classification for taxation than eastern areas as Tax Commissioner Robert Armstrong reports after 18 state meetings. Over 300 officials from 87 counties attended. Committees may classify rural land and submit recommendations to county boards. Many counties use aerial federal maps for assessments. some use full three member committees to review land.
