Improvement Of Pastures Benefits In Five Ways

Five benefits from pasture improvement are listed by the Midwest division of the National Plant Food Institute from 1958 Minnesota fertilizer demonstrations. More milk and meat can be produced from fewer acres with adequate fertilization. Fertilized pastures yielded about four times as much grazing and weight gains for sheep compared with unfertilized plots. Less grain is needed to support dairy milk flow with good grazing management. Sloping fields freed tillable land for corn and other crops. Higher fertility encourages brome grass and other high producing species to dominate the growth.
