Icy streets blamed for two wrecks in Sidney
Two automobile accidents in Sidney this week were blamed on icy streets. Lawrence Mayden of Kansas City collided with a 1940 Chevrolet driven by Bernie Zamora at 15th and Illinois, causing about 20 dollars in damage. A second crash at 10th Avenue involved Carl Johnston and George Martin with damages around 55.80 dollars. A third collision near Illinois and 10th Avenue involved Thomas Miller and Ted Oliverius with minor damage.

The national guard lifted state enlistment ceilings on Tuesday allowing states to enlist as many men as possible. Ceilings set last summer will be restored if total strength reaches 341,000, the current strength at 302,062. States report weekly and ceilings may be reimposed if 341,000 is reached.

Wandering Sheep Found After 15 Mile Journey
A storm drove 600 wandering sheep plus 400 strays on the run from Dalton to Lemoyne Johnson’s Lodgepole farm. Police traced the flock after a 15 mile trek ending with Johnson reporting extra 400 sheep. Tornado-like blizzard losses hit western Kansas with many turkeys dead across central Nebraska.

Forger Given Term In Reformatory
Lois Clark 21 of Bridgeport pleaded guilty in district court to forging and passing a forged check and was sentenced to 12 to 15 months in the York women’s reformatory, to run concurrently with other counts. She earlier admitted guilt in county court, waived 24 hour study time, and was bound over. The forged check for 45 dollars was passed at Hauserman Drug Store in Scottsbluff, drawn on First National Bank of Lewellen and signed John D. Henshaw with her initials L C. She was arrested after drug store staff verified the forgery. Clark is wife of Jack Clark, currently serving a Colorado sentence for a prior forgery.
