Thanksgiving services eyed by district eye speaker announced
The Rev. Virgil Anderson of Scottsbluff will deliver the Thanksgiving message at the First United Methodist Church in Sidney at 7 30 p m Wednesday. The service replaces the usual Union Thanksgiving Service with Rev Stanley Ganzel presiding and Mrs Bob Spearow at the organ. Griffith seeks parole after death row for murder
Hugh Griffith of Sidney, who spent more than a year on Nebraska State Penitentiary death row, has a Parole Board hearing on December 22. He was sentenced to the electric chair for first degree murder in 1952 for the shotgun slaying of his estranged wife Anna in Sidney. The death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment in 1954. The hearing will consider recommending commutation to parole for life-term inmates. Griffith is among four life termers slated for the December 22 session.

Former Sioux Employee Dies in Wyoming
James L. Hettinger Sr. a 75 year old former Sioux Army Depot employee, died of a heart attack in Riverton Wyoming. Funeral services were held in Riverton with interment at Riverton cemetery. He retired in 1964 as head of the salvage department after starting at Sioux in 1942. He moved from Sidney to Wyoming a year ago and is survived by son James L. Jr. of Riverton. A memorial is set for Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital in St Paul Minnesota.
