The Knights of Columbus began a nationwide drive to aid in maintaining huts behind the trenches for the boys at the front. The effort mirrors the Y M C A mission to support soldiers’ welfare. Mrs F B Tobin and baby visited Rock Springs Wyoming to see relatives.
The Sidney Girls present a new dance tomorrow night at the Opera house to raise funds for the Smoke Fund for the Sammies in France. Dedrick's orchestra promises good music on a fine floor. tickets are one dollar and every winning man will be treated like a prince.
UF tiptegrove was among attendees at the Implement TM Nealers convention in Omaha this week, going over on Tuesday.
A new Sidney project, the Sidney Cereal Mill, will start by producing cereals and is funded by Edward Sitz, George Glidewell, Leroy Sitz, and David R. Jones. The article envisions future growth into large flour mills, noting local wheat and flour trade potential with Minnesota Mills and calls the incorporators commendable for seizing the opportunity.
Saturday last the Sidney State Bank received thirty more registered sow pigs distributed to as many boys through N Medlock, Chairman of the Pig Club. Membership rises to ninety one making it the largest club in the United States and the clamor among the boys grows for the thoroughbred program.
Sam P. Jones born October 13 1861 in Pennsylvania came to Eagle precinct Cheyenne county in 1886 and built a 1304 acre ranch. He died November 19 1917 at the ranch after pneumonia. Funeral held at Sidney with large attendance. Interment Greenlawn Cemetery. Survived by wife Mary Evang and several children and grandchildren.
County crowds surpassed goals with YMCA campaign raising 6404 dollars and 25 cents in cash and pledges. Some committees still collecting pledges, will add more funds to reach final tally likely 6800 dollars. Cheyenne County Nebraska already massively oversubscribed.
