Fire destroys Rae's Sporting Goods in Sidney blaze

A major fire gutted the one story Rae's Sporting Goods store in Sidney's central business district, damaging the Odd Fellows Building and the Log Cabin Tavern area as flames and smoke rose in a snow storm. Firefighter Roy Henderson was hospitalized and all rebuild plans were abandoned by owner Marius Christensen. The blaze drew aid from multiple departments including the Sioux Ordnance Depot. preliminary damage was estimated near 100000 dollars.

Charge Pressed In Cutting Incident In Sidney Case

A charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm was filed in Cheyenne County Court over the Oct 28 cutting of Ramon Hernandez of Ordville. Hernandez was slashed on the left arm at a Sidney dance by a sugar beet topper’s knife, and his Ordville apartment was raided that same night. Danny Virgil, about 20, of Sidney, is named in the charge after a lengthy sheriff’s investigation.
