A Cheyenne County couple, Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Kriesel of Gurley, received statewide notice in the Farmstead Improvement contest sponsored by Radio Station WNAX of Yankton, South Dakota. Their remodeled farmhouse added three rooms, updated utilities, landscaped grounds, a new drive, windbreak, and enhanced layouts, all supervised by the Kriesels who did the planning.

Beet Payment Will Be Made This Weekend
The Great Western Sugar Company will pay $13,968,000 to beet growers in Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming and Montana as the first 1948 crop payment. Total initial payments, with AAA tax adjustments, will near $18.2 million. Checks mailed in November cover deliveries through November 4, about 97 percent of the crop.

Pageant Planned At Annual Union Church Services
A pageant of pilgrims from Sidney churches will open Union Thanksgiving services at 10 a.m. in First Methodist church. Two pilgrims and several families with a spokesman will perform before Sidney High School students Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Walter Jewett will preach the sermon, union choir to provide music, and a rehearsal and participant meeting set for Sunday at the Methodist Church. Thanksgiving morning pageant runs 9:30 to 10.

Cates Service Held At Peetz
Funeral services for Mrs. Lucy Alice Cates 67 Peetz Colo died at a Sidney hospital were conducted at Peetz with burial at Peetz Cemetery under Gehrig Funeral Home. Born 1881 in Inman Nebraska she homesteaded in Peetz moved into Peetz in 1947 and was active in the United Brethren Church Ladies Auxiliary Missionary Society and Farm Woman's club. Survivors include nine children and a sister Delia Downey of Burwell Nebraska.

Nebraska Tuberculosis Association launches the 42nd annual Christmas Seal Sale on November 22. High school students statewide join the state contest with prizes including a $25 Savings Bond for each of the three top entries and equipment funds for winning schools.
