The Sidney Mercantile Company purchased the McLernon property on the corner of Rose and Second Streets north of the American Bank for eight thousand dollars. The firm is to be congratulated on acquiring this valuable corner.
A ranch house twenty seven miles northwest of Sidney in Kimball County was destroyed by fire on Monday. C. J. Almgren and wife, lessees, were milking when a lamp exploded causing the blaze. A trunk and sewing machine were saved. insurance covered only part of the loss.
Emil Fenske and James M. Black of Lodgepole with their wives were in Sidney on Thursday. Fenske completed the purchase of a well improved 320 acre farm north of Lodgepole for fifteen thousand dollars. The property is described as very well kept.
County Court attention centers on Lodgepole residents the Grieser and Lough families this week with more proceedings anticipated.
Mrs. Elizabeth Wilson Sager born July 22 1837 in Metamora Illinois died suddenly at her Sidney home at 3 a m Saturday aged seventy four cause heart failure. She married S Loomis then Benjamin Sager and had daughters Emma Johnson Esther Booth and others plus sons Edwin George Pearl Melburn Josephine Runge and a child who died in infancy. Funeral held at Methodist Church at eleven o clock Thursday with burial in Sidney Cemetery. Telegraph delays hindered arrival of sons in South Dakota.
David A Barnhart born May 14 1841 in Greenfield Pa. Married Malinda Moore March 29 1866. Lived Bedford Pa Bedford to Sidney relocation 1877. Survived by brother Abraham, his wife and four children: A W Atkins Bridgeport NE J H Barnhart Ogden UT H M Barnhart Cheyenne WY G F Barnhart Nebraska City NE. one daughter died in infancy Carrie M Ickes died 1890. Funeral at home 11 am Rev E J Hayes. Sidney Cemetery burial.
The Trier Opera Quintette of five sisters, two pairs of twins, returns to the High School Auditorium on Saturday November 25. Their sixth concert season features light operas in costume with special scenes. Tickets are 35c general, 50c reserved, and 25c for school children.
Last Saturday brought subzero temperatures and biting winds contrasting with a Friday of springlike warmth. Coal shortages strained supplies while snow drifted and trains faced western delays. Sunday cooled then warmed, storms and extreme cold plagued multiple states, livestock suffered, and a hard winter prediction grew. Friday followed with wind and sun.

A government sleuth thriller titled A Millionaire Tramp is set to play on November 22 at the Tobin Opera House. The production promises moral themes, a love story, and crime justice, with notable scenic effects and stage specialties. Lodgepole visitors Frank Isenberger and Roy, Mrs. Black, and Amiel Fenska and family were Sidney travelers on Thursday.
A large crowd greeted United States Senators Norris Brown and G M Hitchcock at the Union Pacific Depot on Wednesday evening while they waited for Number Four. Citizens of Sidney crowded the station to honor the visiting officials and show their regard for them.

The Nebraska State Irrigation Association held its annual meeting in Bridgeport with 222 delegates. Attendees backed laws favoring irrigation needs and Western Nebraska rights in Pathfinder Reservoir waters. National legislators Brown Hitchcock and Kinkaid spoke on federal relations. Halligan won the presidency over Whitehead by 85 to 79. Le Blanc became Secretary, Wright Vice President, Warrick Treasurer.

The Sidney Military Band and the Big Ten Orchestra combine for a free concert on Thursday November 23 at 3 p.m. at Tobin Opera House directed by W M Pulver and T H Lynch. The program includes The Guardsman The Spring Maid Reme Valse Entreach Egyptienne Nero's Delight Waltz Shoulder Arms and more. Attendees are urged to bring families and friends to support the new orchestra and ensure standing room.
