Lincoln Nebraska urges residents to contribute to the Sidney United Fund campaign as the drive nears completion. With about $8000 of a $12700 goal raised, officials seek late gifts from business and residential areas to reach the target by month end and support nine member agencies for next year.
The Cheyenne County Farmers Union held its annual meeting at the Legion Park Shelter House choosing Arvin Nielsen as president and detailing resolutions on promoting satellite TV to replace cable, protesting freight rate hikes, urging government parity loans for wheat, and calling for county weed clearance programs. Kenneth Nienhuser highlighted youth activities and pollution concerns, noting the average farmer age of 58 and a Washington trip by 96 members to lobby for parity.
John William Billeter 90 a former state highway engineer and Cheyenne County resident died Saturday at Memorial Rest Home. Funeral services set for Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Surviving are one son Floyd and five daughters with 26 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. A Heart Fund memorial is planned.
James Rezac, 57, died Saturday after a two week hospital stay following a lengthy illness. Funeral services are set for a.m. Wednesday at Gehrig and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Stanley Ganzel. burial in Greenwood Cemetery. He was born March 13 1913 in Seward to Joe and Anna Rezac and married June 23 1942 in Wilber to Carol Mathewson. Survived by daughter Charyn Rezac of Bushnell and sisters Adeline Rezac of Sidney and Rose Zavadek of Lincoln. Preceded by parents, sister Helen Walia, and brother Bill. Memorials to the Emphysema Foundation.
The Nebraska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission schedules two hearings at the Fort Sidney Motor Hotel Navy. The sessions address Reserve Oil and Gas Co. applications for secondary recovery programs in the Evertson and Frederick Fields in Kimball County.
A light snowfall Friday night into Saturday brought damp chill and a drop in temperatures. By Sunday, temperatures recovered to balmier levels as daily FAA flight service reports tracked the weather through Friday Saturday and Sunday with readings posted by noon today.
Sidney's TV study committee reconvenes to accelerate work on a franchise with a February expiry. The 14 member group aims to improve reception and programming while honoring nonduplication and FCC rulings governing schedules. Lloyd Wetenkamp notes Sidney’s picture quality is competitive but ongoing study is needed.
Funeral services for Clarence William Billy Triska 40 will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Stanley Ganzel will officiate with interment in Ogallala Cemetery. The Craig Holechek Funeral Home handles arrangements. Memorials may be given to the church. He was born July 21 1930 in Scottsbluff and moved to Sidney in 1947. He is survived by his parents.

Sidney Police logged theft of a tape player and three tapes from Mic McDolan's car at the old Sin clair station. Three vandalism cases followed Sunday at Jessie Chapman’s garage, where two youths 8 to 10 broke windows, then again later. Wayne Bauerkemper reported a rock shattering a show window at his Illinois business.
Dairymen are reminded of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association meeting set for Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Wheatbelt Public Power District meeting room. Dr Kenneth Cook will speak on the Function of Reproductive Organs.
Reports indicate three Nebraska road projects tied to Interstate 80 in Cheyenne and Kimball counties will seek bids on December 17. Work covers guard rails, grading, culverts, and two bridges on the Sund South and Lodgepole South projects plus roadside improvements near Sidney and Big Springs.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday for Ann Marie Peters infant daughter of Jay and Mary Walsh Peters of Dalton who died at birth. Burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Cletus Semper of St. Mary's Dalton officiating. Surviving are the parents four sisters a brother and the grandparents all of Sidney.
Two youths were injured in an early morning accident in Sidney on Sunday. Driver Jerry L. Raddatz, 18, sustained a broken nose and passenger Mike Green, 19, a hip fracture. Green was moved to a Cheyenne hospital. Raddatz was charged with reckless driving.
