Eugene Albon Hall 94 a renowned Panhandle cattleman died at his Alliance home Saturday Funeral services were set in Alliance He helped drive Texas cattle along the Chisholm Trail into western Nebraska Hall served as Box Butte County s second sheriff and aided Alliance s growth He began as a 16 year old driving steers to the Rosebud Agency in South Dakota and later worked with Ogallala Land & Cattle Co including operations based in Sidney from 1886 to 1888 and moving cattle toward Wyoming during homestead conflicts with settlers.

Collision on Illinois Street Causes Minor Damage

Sid ney police estimated damage at 165 dollars after a collision on Illinois Street west of Ninth Avenue. Vehicles driven by Charles Guyette, 19, and Marion Foulk, 37, both of Sidney, collided rear to stopped car. Foulk said his foot slipped off the brake. no injuries reported.

Petroleum Industry Group In Nebraska Is Being Organized

In Scottsbluff on Monday about 75 people discussed forming a statewide body to represent Nebraska oil and gas interests. W. F. Rogers called the meeting and two Sidney attorneys Paul Martin and Hammond McNish were named to draft articles of incorporation for a nine member committee.

County Road Permit Plan Is Authorized

Nebraska counties lead by Cheyenne in issuing overweight load permits for county roads to aid oil field haulers. The plan, set to take effect December 1, requires damage liability from haulers and is enforced by the sheriff and Nebraska Safety Patrol.

Rex Wilcox a Sioux Ordnance Depot employee was found dead in the North Platte River near the Bridgeport state recreation grounds. Police believe natural causes. Union Pacific Trainmen Save Sidney Trucker From Death

A hot box on Union Pacific No. 6 caused a derailment scare three miles east of Kimball. Trucker Robert Mitchell of Rogers Truck Lines was freed after being pinned beneath steel when conductors and crew, aided by a passenger, pried him loose and loaded him onto the train for transport to Sidney. Mitchell sustained a broken left leg and frost exposure in three degree weather.

William L. Four representatives from the Sidney community attended the Governor’s Conference on Education in Grand Island last Thursday. The all day event featured an evening banquet with Roman Hruska and a noon luncheon with Governor Victor Anderson. Over 400 delegates gathered as eleven were chosen to attend the December White House Conference on Education.
