Armistice Day activities in Sidney were subdued with the VFW and American Legion parade and services, the noon bean feed, and a large crowd watching the football game. The day featured a quiet town, closed stores, and no traffic incidents, as prayers centered on fallen heroes and those serving in Korea.
Kolzow to take over as secretary of the Sidney Chamber of Commerce succeeding Gordon Tobin who resigns effective November 1. Kolzow operates an office supply store and will hire a manager for the business while keeping involvement. Tobin exits due to burden of dual roles as chamber secretary and city clerk. New officers to be elected in December. major 1951 project remains the annual Christmas party for Sidney and surrounding trade area.
Colder weather followed a mild Armistice holiday, with light rain Monday and a blizzard reported in the western Panhandle across Wyoming. Forecasters say temperatures should stay near normal for the next five days and November will likely be cooler than average.
Lincoln Nebraskans receive deer permits as the state's deer season nears. Permits mailed last Wednesday cover open areas in Banner Morrill Scotts Bluff Dawes and Sioux counties with exceptions for Wildcat Hills Banner Reserve Chadron State Park and federal refuges in open counties.
Two Union Pacific streamliners crashed near Evanston Wyoming on Monday. The City of San Francisco rear ended the City of Los Angeles in a blizzard, killing 26 and injuring 60. Investigation began with little to determine as the engineer likely did not see the other train. The San Francisco diesel units were wrecked and cars derailed. Mr and Mrs Petrus Peterson of Kimball were aboard the City of Los Angeles. Mrs Peterson was hospitalized with shock and a leg injury. They had visited California with their daughter and her husband who celebrated their 25th anniversary.
Sidney schools invite patrons to visit buildings and classes during American Education Week from November 11 to 16. A public program is set for Wednesday November 14 at 8 p m in the high school auditorium. The observance highlights education's role in the republic and links schools with the community.
The Office of Price Stabilization postponed to December 10 the requirement to post ceiling prices for new cars and to issue invoices itemizing the components of the ceiling price. The delay is due to higher excise taxes on certain equipment for new passenger cars.
The Publishers Auxiliary polled over two thousand small town editors nationwide. Editors favor Eisenhower for president but expect Truman and Taft to be the Democratic and Republican nominees. The majority predict Truman’s re election.
Four distinguished physicians from Chicago and Philadelphia will lecture in Scottsbluff on December 8 as part of a Panhandle district Nebraska Medical Association meeting at the Lincoln hotel. The tour includes Beatrice Norfolk Grand Island McCook and North Platte with papers clinics and dinners scheduled.
State Engineer Harold Aitken said records from 1946 to 1950 show a reasonably equitable geographic distribution of highway funds. He noted Nebraska receives a larger proportional share of federal money and less populous counties gain a larger share of state funds. Total highway revenue was 99,182,509.67, with 52,690,836.31 returned to counties for road improvements, 28,028,355.15 spent on maintenance, and the remainder on new construction.

The Randall case questions the board's right to lease and to parcel land.
The Future Homemakers of America sponsored drive reports eleven hundred pounds of clothing in good condition. Credit goes to grade school principals and teachers for promoting the need and caring for items. High school typing and Vo-Ag departments aided with letters, labels, and truck collection while volunteers packed and delivered. Girls packing helpers included Lo Rene Barnes, Mary Schoenholz, Billie McWilliams, Frances O'Dell, Bernita Overmiller, Juanita Avila, and Shirley Erickson.
Panhandle County Officials Association will convene in Alliance on Wednesday November 14, according to secretary treasurer Beulah B Hazel.
Officials of the Rent Stabilization Agency visiting Sidney report a friendly reception from landlords and tenants as they work to set rent levels under a stabilization system. Richard H. Evans notes the goal is fair rents with profits for owners, plus an advisory board for hearings. Over 300 landlords registered more than 300 units before Friday, with extensions for remaining registrations in Sidney and upcoming sessions in Lodgepole Potter Dalton Gurley with dates and times listed.
A regional road improvement push for western Nebraska was outlined by the Western Nebraska United Chambers of Commerce at a Scottsbluff meeting. The three point plan covers road building methods and costs, highway financing, and broad public education. New officers include J D Doug Borman as president and H Eemond Hardin as vice president. The Gordon January 10 gathering will install officers and set a highway committee with members from Alliance Ogallala Broken Bow Sidney and other towns. A state engineer may attend the Gordon meeting.
A Nebraska Bar Association committee says oil exploration in the state hasn’t warranted broad regulatory laws but urges vigilance to aid legislation in oil development and conservation. Led by Paul L. Martin of Sidney, the panel will present at the Hotel Paxton in Omaha.
Sidney high seniors nominate five candidates for Homecoming Queen Marcelyn Dedrick Jo Ann Kinney Joan Mahaffey Melha Phelps and Beverly Wasser Crowning Friday at 11 am in the high school auditorium followed by an alumni parade and a 2 pm Sidney Kimball football game The day also features honors for the oldest living male and female Sidney high graduates.
The gas explosion reported last Friday at a north side home involved an LP gas installation, not natural gas, clarifying the near tragedy reported by The Telegraph.

The eminent star will showcase moving picture and stage roles and Lions Club sponsors the event. expected to be a major local entertainment attraction comparable to last year’s Victor Borge show.
Monsignor Anton Link is in fair condition at St. Joseph's Hospital in Alliance after an emergency operation last Saturday. He arrived about ten days ago to convalesce from a serious illness, and doctors say he has rallied fairly well but his weakened condition clouds the outlook for recovery.
Drillers at the Texas Co. Government No. 1 on Sioux Ordnance Depot recovered gas and oil in the first well but await orders on completion. A 900,000 cubic feet gas find in the J sand and a half million dollar government oil-right deal are noted along with new digs planned near Dalton and several other county sites including Deuel, Potter, and Kimball counties as oil and gas activity continues.
The 1952 Massey Harris combine is now on display at The Western Implement Co on east Illinois Street. A full page advertisement invites farmers and others to inspect the new machine, which embodies several innovations in construction and operation.
