Potter Power Leads Potter Past Madrid-Wheatland in State Tourney

Potter Coyotes opened with a 15-4 15-12 first round win over Madrid-Wheatland at Scottsbluff. They trailed briefly at 0-3 but surged to a 13-3 in game one and edged game two 15-12 as Toni Killham delivered the final points. Semifinal foe to be decided with Brunning Arcadia winner Saturday at 11:45 a.m. If Potter advances, Bill Hicks will coach finals at 6:15 p.m.

World War I veteran Hoffert keeps patriotism alive in Potter

Amos Hoffert, 86, a World War I medical corpsman and Potter resident, remains a steadfast patriot. He flies a flag daily, bought an American Legion Bell for veterans in need, and recalls frontline duties with Pershing. Hoffert, a longtime Sioux Army Depot worker, cherishes family and his 30+ crawled cane collection. He grew his beard for the 1975 Potter Days beard contest and keeps it to this day.

Vietnamese doctors help ease rural Nebraska physician shortage

Communities across northeast Colorado and adjacent Nebraska seek new doctors as longtime physicians retire or leave. Sidney hosts three regional meetings next week

Three meetings will be held in Sidney starting Monday with the Nebraska Association of Resources Districts and two session blocks by Western United Chambers of Commerce and the Panhandle Resource Council. About 50 NRD board members from 24 districts attend a two day program at Fort Sidney Motor Hotel with tours, memos, and planning discussions led by state and local officials.

Nebraska Weekend Outlook Warmth Returns Saturday

Cold high pressure dominated Nebraska weather with a high center over North Dakota drifting in. Forecasters expect Friday highs in the 20s to around 30, then dropping to single digits Friday night. Saturday should be slightly warmer with upper 20s to mid 30s under sunny skies.
