City Council to finalize fluoridation decision after vote

Sidney voters rejected fluoridating the water 889 to 648 last week. Council meets Tuesday at 7 30 p m at City Hall to adopt an ordinance prohibiting fluoridation and review other items including Sewer District 43 assessments, a Union Pacific lease on a Hickory Street water main, and the annual audit and city reports. The meeting is open to the public.

Construction activity climbs in Sidney in October permits

Sidney issued building permits totaling 186 649 in October up from 145 289 a year earlier with 80 614 for new construction this year. Major share 159 000 went to new homes including modular units at 2489 Monterey 2674 El Rancho and 2524 1th Ave. Other approved projects included six garage or shed permits totaling 13 449 and porch and home improvement work at 12 700. A beauty shop remodeling at 1026 Toledo St added 1 500.

Grand Island Candidate Rose Ann Jacobsen enters 35th District race

Mrs Rose Ann Jacobsen of Grand Island filed Monday to run for the legislature from the 35th District. Incumbent State Sen Ralph Kelly is not up for re election until May 1976. Jacobsen, a former Hall County Register of Deeds, had just lost reelection. Kelly welcomed her bid but had not planned ahead for Christmas.

Brumbaugh Wins State Citation At Nebraska Award Banquet

Gale Brumbaugh of Sidney received the Scott Wilber Award for outstanding operation of Sidney's wastewater plant at the Nebraska Water Pollution Association banquet. Twenty Nebraska operators were honored with trophies and certificates for exemplary maintenance and operation.

Sidney school board meets tonight agenda set at 7 45

The Sidney Board of Education holds a 7 45 pm meeting in the Junior High School Library with three items on the agenda. Representatives of the Cheyenne County Ministerial Association will discuss reserving one night each week for church night activities. The board will consider salaries for the summer band director and parade week and resolutions from the Nebraska State School Board Association. A voting delegate for the NSSBA convention will be selected.

Goodman scouts alternate sites for Sidney Plaza project

A Kansas City real estate representative Marty Goodman of Leo Eisenberg & Co toured alternate sites in Sidney with local agent Arlo Jones to re evaluate where the Sidney Plaza Shopping Center might be built. The Eisenberg firm plans to rezoning the Arlo Jones Addition site from residential to commercial drew opposition from nearby homeowners. The city council supports development on part of Inland Industries land south of Legion Park, with access streets to the tract.

Nebraska honors 11 alumni visiting campus this week

Former Sidney High School Band Director Dean Killion now a Texas Tech professor is among 11 University of Nebraska alumni invited to return as 1974 Masters. The program brings distinguished alumni to engage with students and faculty. Killion led Sidney High from 195? to 1955.
