The weather bureau warns of light rain or snow showers tonight and Thursday across the Nebraska Panhandle. Skies stay overcast as temperatures reach 51 by noon. Farmers monitor drought impact, with Cheyenne County slightly better due to late October rainfall. Disaster committees in Scottsbluff, Banner, and Kimball weigh designations, while emergency loans remain available. A new billing system will provide precise purchase records for prescriptions and medicines.
Clarence E. Cox 70, longtime Sidney city employee, died Wednesday morning at Memorial Hospital after a heart attack Saturday. Funeral rites are pending at Gehrig & Son Funeral Home. Cox, born May 11, 1894 in Shelton, Neb, moved to Kimball then Potter before settling in Sidney in 1942. He is survived by his widow SteHa Boltin, three sons Oren, Alva, and Walter, 11 grandchildren, four brothers and two sisters.
More than 200 cattlemen attended the annual livestock conference banquet in Sidney Nebraska where Dr Paul Guyer of the University of Nebraska said Cheyenne County's cattle fed rose from 2000 in 1950 to 14000 in 1963. Speakers Ce cil Means and Arthur Kulakofsky urged good management and proper feeding practices.
York Cheyenne wheat samples from Banner and Cheyenne counties swept grand championship honors at the 1964 Nebraska Wheat Show. Walter and Jerry Stauffer of Gering earned the Market Wheat grand championship, with 208 entries vying. Regional and division winners showcased numerous growers from Gering, Bayard, McCook, Lincoln, Ogallala, and Dorchester across Market and Certified Seed divisions.
A fired up Sidney Chamber of Commerce manager Jack Laimer electrified a jammed Fort Sidney banquet room with humor and practical wisdom. He urged serving customers with smiles, calling customers the ones in charge for the first time since 1929, and urged business to become people experts to improve service and prosperity.
A Sidney resident Mrs. James A. Livingston 54 died at Methodist Hospital Rochester Minnesota after throat and chest surgery. Funeral services set for Saturday at St Patrick's Church with Father Vincent Pelster. burial Greenwood Cemetery. Rosary Friday at the funeral home. Survived by widower two daughters and four brothers.
The 74th Minuteman ICBM launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base California soared over the Pacific missile range during a training exercise. Preliminary telemetry indicated the missile was on target. The test was conducted by the 490th Strategic Missile Squadron from Malmstrom AFB Montana.
President E R Jimerson of the Sidney Chamber of Commerce praised progress at the annual Sidney civic club meeting at Ft Sidney Motor Hotel. He cited Thursday luncheons by the industrial council as paying dividends, boosting payrolls and area economy, and noted retraining, a new secretarial school, irrigation expansion, and potential new industries. The 260 attendees included club presidents who spoke briefly. Five new directors were named, with three re-elected. Ballots totaled 140, signaling growing chamber interest and activity.
The Kiwanis Club won the cream can attendance award at the Chamber of Commerce general meeting. The Tuesday night roaster drew 260 people. Kiwanis had 28 present of 43 members, a 65.1 percent turnout. Lions were 64.5 percent, Rotary 46.5 percent, Jaycees 27.7 percent.
