Prelude to the Moonlite Madness sale presents a seven to eleven o'clock event hosted by Sidney merchants. Clerks and managers will wear caps and gowns for the moonlighting theme, with staff showing off playful outfits including pajamas and nightwear in a lighthearted preview.
The Sidney Public Schools will oversee a new Sidney Occupational Training Project to begin mid December. Joseph Schaf named coordinator with Bruce Davis in charge of housing at Sioux Army Depot. Over half a million dollars funded by federal Acts, recruiting through Division of Employment Nebraska, with 70 to 325 enrollment. Occupations include auto and tractor mechanics, clerical, wait staff, cooks, and bakers. Facilities at the depot comprise shop space, admin offices, mess hall, four barracks, and 80 family units. Lease from the Army with no rent, maintenance by lessee. Funding from HEW and Labor. Schaf has begun faculty recruitment.
Walter W. Peterson of Chappell Nebraska and Kenneth R. Lynk of Marshalltown Iowa were reelected to 3 year terms on the Farm Credit Board of Omaha. They serve as directors of the Federal Land Bank of Omaha Federal Intermediate Credit Bank of Omaha and the Omaha Bank for Cooperatives. The three Farm Credit Banks hold over 750 million dollars in loans across four states. Peterson has served as an appointed member since 1958 and was reelected by stockholders. Lynk was first elected in 1959 and won reelection by Production Credit Associations in four listed states.
The S and H Green Stamp redemption center at 1020 Illinois Street in Chicago received best display honors for the third quarter of 1964. Sperry and Hutchinson Company announced the award today. Regional operations manager L. E. Delaney said Mrs. Mildred Shoopman, store manager, will be presented a recognition plaque.
Western Nebraska United Chambers of Commerce leaders debated a regional promotion plan at the WNUCC bi monthy session in Chadron. A Sidney committee headed by John Elwell Jr. was formed to craft a presentation for the next gathering. New WMCC officers were named as W. B. Agee of North Platte president, Allison Johnson of Hemingford first vice president, and Thane Davis second vice president. The January 14 meeting will be at Alliance.

A Census Bureau report from 1962 compares Cheyenne County per capita spending on schools highways police and more with national and Nebraska figures. Cheyenne County spent 193 per person while the nation averaged 214 and Nebraska 196. revenue was 222 per capita with 183 from local taxes and fees. General debt stood at 163 per capita in Cheyenne County, below the national 259.
Forecast calls for considerable cloudiness with occasional light snow tonight and Saturday. Colder Saturday with lows of 20 to 30 and highs of 30 to 40. Five day outlook shows temperatures 5 to 10 degrees below normal through next Wednesday, colder end of week, frequent changes, highs near 40 and lows near 20, with occasional snow at period start and end of next week.
A 16 year old Baltimore youth named Abraham Durham was arrested near Paxton about three hours after the 1964 Thunderbird owned by Mrs. Sybil Holmes was reported stolen in Sidney. Durham was held at Keith County Sheriff's office and to be transported to Cheyenne County Sheriff W. W. Schulz for charges. The car was taken from in front of Jody's Beauty Box on 18th between 7 and 8 a.m. with keys left inside. An area wide alarm was issued by Sidney Police Patrol and Sheriffs offices in the search for the coral and white car.
A grass and tree fire south of Lodgepole destroyed about ten acres at the Fred Quinn place. A weed fire in a county road ditch escaped control and kept firemen working from 10:30 a.m. into the late afternoon. Dead trees exploded, showering sparks and hampering suppression efforts.
In Sidney several structures rise including a five unit shopping center on Toledo Street built by Arlo Jones with occupancy projected for early next year and five more units planned. Goodrich Tire and Rubber Co store at 12th and Hickory begins with a steel retail and wholesale outlet, possibly ready by year’s start. Sinclair Refining Co replaces its old station with a new facility after razing the site. Conoco Station may follow. A Sidney Public Library project is planned at about 150000 dollars pending approvals and federal aid.
First units of a new south Sidney shopping center on Toledo St between 10th and 11th Avenues are under construction and may be ready for occupancy around year start. Developer Arlo Jones says initial tenants include a dental office a dry cleaner a dress shop a beauty parlor and an office.
The Fox Theater hosts a ghost convention tonight at eleven. Manager Verne Austin announces eerie features for Friday the 13th and offers free admission to the first patrons over 20 in authentic ghost costumes.
The Nebraska Chapter Western Section of IAEI will hold its annual meeting in Sidney on Nov 16 17 at Fort Sidney Motor Hotel. Gene Lienemann chairs. officers include James Ekstrand Ross Wright and Gary Rickets. L. S. Crain is secretary treasurer.
CHAPPELL Three new irrigation wells on table land in Deuel County spur more test drilling as droughty conditions strain crops. Wells on land held by Joe Hertje Billy Ray and H H Reese Ebke Brothers show 700 800 and over 1200 GPM. Over 300 acres will be leveled this year to support irrigation system development with Soil Conservation Service help.
About 150 people including employees directors and interested citizens from the Nebraska panhandle attended a Thursday Alliance meeting titled Good For All America. Sponsored by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and the Nebraska Rural Power, the Panhandle Electric Membership Association hosted with manager Paul Phaneuf. Wheatbelt Public Power District sponsored about 40 attendees from Devel Morrill Garden and Cheyenne counties. Sidney attendees included Spencer Cronk Dallas Leickmann Ada Hansen Ken McMillen Robert Elsen Jack Laimer Sidney Chamber of Commerce manager Floyd Burdick Ken Humphrey of Dalton and Wheatbelt manager Charles Ham.
Sealed bids will be received by the Board of Education for furnished labor and material to construct the new addition to the grade school at Chappell. Separate proposals are requested for general contract plumbing heating and ventilating and electric wiring. Drawings may be inspected at the superintendent's office the architect's in Lincoln or F Dodge Corporation and Omaha Builders Exchange in Omaha.
