The Kimball Public Library seeks bids to extend the current building by 21 feet in length and 40 feet in width. City Engineer Bob Array estimates a $6,260 cost, to be funded from the Library Fund. Herman To Join Lincoln Journal

Dick Herman, long time news editor at The Sidney Telegraph, will leave Sidney next week to take a position with the Nebraska State Journal in Lincoln. A Missouri graduate, he helped form the Cheyenne County Historical Society and served as its president last year. He also followed regional high school sports and wrote the popular Benchmarks column.

Co. K. Guard to Mark Tenth Anniversary

Sidney Nebraska National Guard Co. K marks ten years since formation after World War II with an open house lunch refreshments and a dance at the Armory on Friday November 22 at eight p.m. Former and current guardsmen and prospective members are invited with wives. Social Security And Tax Courses Stated

Lincoln income tax and social security short courses will be held in four Nebraska towns next month for persons who help farmers and small businessmen with income tax and social security problems. The two day courses will be Dec 3 and 4 in Ogallala Dec 5 and 6 in Hastings Dec 10 and 11 in Norfolk and Dec 12 and 13 in Lincoln. The income tax session will cover common errors on income tax returns dependents and exemptions income to be reported and deductions.

Heart Fund Regional Workshops Are Set

Three of 15 regional workshops for the Nebraska Heart fund are scheduled next week in the Panhandle. Scottsbluff hosts Nov 20, Sidney on Nov 21, Chadron on Nov 19. Workshops address organizing drives for February. County drives aim at $225,000, a 10 percent rise.

Final Canvass Planned To Reach Sidney United Fund Goal

A reorganized whirlwind campaign in Sidney targets the 12 000 quota for the United Fund with about 1 500 still needed. General Drive Chairman H C Q Nelson and J R Miller mapped the plan after noon to canvass 40 business prospects and additional residences. As of Saturday total subscriptions reached 10 560 65, with recovery teams reforming lines for a residential push led by Mrs Ralph Welch and Lee Siuman. Microwave TV Upgrade Improves Sidney Community System

The Sidney community television system began using a new microwave setup last Friday night. It delivers crisper, clearer pictures on channels 4 7 and 9 with many subscribers reporting perfect reception during football games and weekend broadcasts. Interference remains possible but temporary. Over a thousand subscribers rely on the system.

New Channel 3 for Sterling TV ready by FCC

The Federal Communications Commission granted Channel 3 to Sterling paving the way for a local TV station in northeastern Colorado. Prairie Broadcasting Corp. of Sterling and Bi-States Broadcasting of Holdrege compete for final designation with potential entry by others. Bi-State proposes a Hayes Center style satellite station with programming from Holdrege. Prairie touts a live station west of Fleming costing about $225,000 serving the plains and valley with a national affiliate.

Packing Company at Sterling Robbed of $150

The Sterling Packing Co. in Sterling, Colorado, owned by the Neubauer family, was robbed of 150 dollars last week as burglars blew the safe door. Plant manager Dick Neubauer heard the thieves leave by the back door when he arrived at the front door early Friday morning but did not see them.

Southwest oil activity accelerates as Wytex of Co and A A Seeligson start a wildcat on Chet Walters land ten miles west of Lorenzo in Cheyenne County. New oil prospects announced include Johnson No 3 near Heider Field, Kimball County, plus multiple wildcat locations in Banner, Kimball, Harlan, and Richardson counties with several operators such as Raymond Oil, Miracle & Fifer, Mercury Petroleum, and Skelly Oil reporting. Sorghums Should Make An Economical Feed

Sorghums promise economical dairy poultry and livestock feed as free market grain sorghum prices likely drop once harvest begins. Experiments on sorghum feeding show gains similar to corn, with feed per pound of gain typically 91 to 96 percent of corn. A 1957 University of Nebraska hog test found two thirds sorghum and one third corn balanced ration matched or exceeded corn for gain and used similar feed per gain.

Father Of 3 Sidney Residents Is Dead

Conrad D. Benzel, 81, father of Alex Carl and Adolph Benzel of Sidney, died unexpectedly Saturday at his Scottsbluff home. He farmed in Scottsbluff county from 1913 to 1936 before moving to Scottsbluff. Surviving are 13 stepchildren, 36 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren.
