Hereford Association Sale Set for November 16
The Hereford Association schedules its second annual Hereford sale on Wednesday November 16 at the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds livestock barn. About 70 head of registered Herefords are consigned from Cheyenne County and nearby towns including Bridgeport Bayard and Haigler Nebraska. Grand Champion trophies are sponsored by the Sidney Chamber of Commerce with Levi Hahn as judge and Charles Corkle as auctioneer. Lunch will be served on the grounds to encourage longer viewing of stock between show and sale.

Moisture Ample For 50 Wheat In Nebraska Reports
Soil moisture in Nebraska winter wheat areas this fall is favorable and better than last year. Federal statistics cover 203 fields from October 17 to 28 with moisture depths averaging 45.7 inches, up six inches from 39.1 inches in October 1948. First six inches show 7 percent very wet, 21 percent wet, 54 percent moderate, 8 percent slightly damp. second six inches show 3 percent very wet, 38 percent wet, 49 percent moderate, 10 percent slightly damp. Comparisons to last year show more favorable moisture overall.

Oratorical Contest At Sidney Academy
Students from St Patrick's Academy high school will take part in an oratorical contest sponsored by Bishop Hunkeler Assembly No. 1861 Knights of Columbus speaking on Federal Aid to the Catholic Child. The event runs in three sessions on November 14 21 and December 5 12. Senior speakers lead with awards from a fifty dollar savings bond to five dollars in savings stamps, with one stamp from each high school grade.

Eggings Plan Three Month Europe Vacation
Mr and Mrs Gerhard Egging of Sidney will depart Monday evening for New York City to begin a three month trip to The Netherlands and other European countries. They sail November 19 aboard the Veendam and will visit relatives in The Netherlands then tour Germany France and Italy before returning to the United States. This will be their first homeland visit in 41 years. They were married in the old country and then came to the United States, where they have farmed successfully for many years.

Permit checks at depot find drivers with missing or out of state licenses
