J Hammond McNish, a young Sidney lawyer, will headline the Armistice Day program Friday at the City Auditorium under VFW Post 610 and American Legion Post 17. The event follows a parade at 10 with the Sidney High School band and service group representations, then a noon servicemen's dinner, a 2 PM Sidney vs Chappell football game, and a 9 PM Verne Byers Orchestra dance. The day includes honors, colors, prayer, and the National Anthem, with a color-guard retirement to close.

Lutherans To Meet Friday In Sidney Rally
More than 100 workers from nine area Lutheran churches plan to attend a Friday rally at Trinity Luth eran Church in Sidney as part of a state wide series by the Nebraska Synod of the United Lutheran Church. Rev. Theodore J. Schuldt leads arrangements with local pastors. The meeting runs 7 30 to 9 30 pm and features devotional, talks by Rev Avery, group conferences on training teachers and improving teaching, plus closing remarks by Rev Monnich. It is one of 500 rallies across the United States and Canada in 1949, expected to draw over 25 000 workers to boost church teaching and programs. Additional rallies follow in towns including West Point Fremont Omaha Wayne Auburn Beatrice Davenport Grand Island North Platte Columbus.

1939 Sidney Graduate Is Victim Of Polio
Information has been received that H. Rex Burt, a 1939 Sidney High School graduate, is a poliomyelitis patient at the Veterans Hospital Ward 4-A in Portland Oregon. The report says both legs are paralyzed and he wishes to hear from friends in Sidney to help pass the long hours.

Beet Harvest Completed In Record Time In Nebraska
The beet harvest in the Sidney and Potter districts finished in record time this year per M. S. Clement, manager of Scottsbluff and Gering factories. Sixty percent of Sidney acreage used harvesters. Potter relied on hand labor. Lodgepole yields surpassed last year with 344 acres at Sidney averaging 14.3 tons per acre, though Sidney acres were down. 29 acres on H. U. Schnell and LeRoy Schnell’s Carl Olson farm averaged 17.66 tons. Potter’s 75 harvested acres averaged 15.04 tons, up five tons from 1948, with sugar content above 16 percent, a two percent gain. Leonard Wheeler led Potter with 25 acres at 16.6 tons per acre. About 118 carloads were loaded at Sidney and 30 at Potter.

Barn Burned at Welton Farm Near Peetz Saturday
Fire destroyed a 42 by 48 foot barn on the Richard Welton farm one mile south and two west of Peetz early Saturday. Three to four hundred bushels of grain hay and an International truck were lost. Post of the agriculture department told a farm outlook meeting that a 1950 wheat crop of about 1.125 billion bushels could occur even as farmers plant roughly 75 million acres under a government allotment to curb surplus. Steele Wins Decision In Oil Lease Contest
Bert Steele won a district court suit against James Barry and George M. Wright Jr. in Rusk Texas for illegal leasing of Steele's land for oil. Judge John Kuns ruled in Steele's favor on October 26 returning lease rights to Steele and awarding $50 damages for the alleged fraudulent entry into the lease. The defendants allegedly acted July 7 1949 as agents for Roberts Brothers to lease land in Chichester's Addition west of the C B Q right of way.
