Farm Bureau Elects Five To Cheyenne County Board
Five men were elected to three, two, and one year terms on the Cheyenne County Farm Bureau board at the annual meeting in the City Auditorium. Lee Shoemeker George Fleming and Ralph Anderson won three year terms Earl Munshaw two years and Walter Johnson one year. Delegates for the State Farm Bureau convention November 30 to December 3 in Lincoln were named Harvey Fisher Clyde Johnson Art Schuessler and Ross Handley with alternates Cliff Webster Elmer Westerhoff Earl Munshaw and Coleman Kreader. A constitutional change to limit directors to two consecutive years was approved, replacing the former one year cap. Fisher, the outgoing board chair, noted the need for longer terms to gain familiarity with duties. A membership drive report by Berton Cunningham cited disappointing results and urged farmers to organize as workers do in industry and labor.

County Agents Attend Nebraska Convention

Local leaders Glebe Fegelman Lingman spoke as well. Kimball Mayor Kuns welcomed the group and the next convention date was set for April.

Twelve farms were visited by the Cheyenne county soil conservation district supervisors in a Wednesday tour led by Lee Girardot. Morning stops included irrigation work on the Douglas Boyd and I. L. Pindell farms and a diversion ditch at the George Kavanaugh place as heavy earth moving equipment was observed.

City Accepts Paving Costs For Districts 13 to 18
SidneyCity Council voted Thursday night to accept final paving estimates for Districts 13 through 18. The front foot cost averages about 5.57 dollars, down from the initial six dollars, with district by district figures showing city and property owner shares. A bond payoff of about seven thousand dollars was proposed, and methods to finance a new sewage plant were discussed including mill levy and direct charges. Obstructed Vision Blamed For Wreck At City Corner
A Saturday morning collision at King and 11th Avenue caused $60 in damages. Denny L. Stecher of Hooper Nebraska driving a 1935 Ford four door said a southeast corner building blocked his view, leaving him unable to avoid hitting B S Hinman of Dalton who drove a 1941 Chevrolet Tudor. The Ford sustained about $10 damage, the Hinman car about $50.

Mexican Nationals Are Returned Home From Sidney
Thirty seven Mexican nationals were sent out of Sidney Monday to El Paso Texas then to their homes. A second group of 37 will remain until the beet harvest ends next week before also returning to Mexico. Earlier a group of ten was transported to El Paso after being brought here in May to thin sugar beets. Interpreter Henry Castinado leads the group and will accompany the final shipment to Mexico City for a vacation before joining the workers there.

Peters Chosen For National 4-H Congress
Jack Peters a 15 year old Cheyenne county 4-H member was selected as one of four Nebraska representatives to the National 4-H Club Congress to be held November 29 to December 5 in Chicago. Peters has a strong 4-H record since 1947 with 39 projects and multiple honors including county and state awards in sheep, garden, beef, and meat animal projects, plus a top livestock judging honor at the state fair.

Illegal Killing Of Deer Being Probed
The Bridgeport News Blade reports Broadwater resident Al Satttley found a six point buck deer about seven miles northeast of town and turned the carcass to Sheriff M E Devore. A second carcass was found nearby and officers traced the scene with Deputy Earl Yeoman County Attorney Rob ert J Bulger and Game Warden George Wiedman. The killer remains at large. The deer dressed about 200 pounds indicating a live weight over 300 pounds.

Schwasnick Succumbs To Heart Attack
Frank Schwasnick 62, owner of The Star Packing and Cold Storage Co., died of a heart attack about 8 30 Monday morning outside the Sidney packing plant after leaving his house. A native of Lipsitz Germany born February 27, 1885 he came to the United States at fourteen. Survived by wife Elizabeth two children Frances Davis Nyda Biggs three grandchildren two brothers and other relatives. Gehrig Funeral Home in charge.
