Hunger Walk Raises Funds in Sidney for Global Needy

Thirty five Sidney residents joined a 10 mile Hunger Walk, climbing Breakneck Hill and returning toward town to fund food and tools for the needy. In photos, eleven marchers start the ascent while Holly Atkins and Pam Selzer rest at the summit before the final five miles. sponsor total not released yet, one walker Doris Harlan will receive about $120.

Sidney Wins Health and Safety Honor in 1976 Program

Sidney captures the Health and Safety Programs division of the 1976 Nebraska Community Improvement Program. The awards banquet at the University of Nebraska Student Union Ballroom in Lincoln featured Rex Swanson receiving the plaque from Gov. J.J Exon, with Larry Boyer in attendance. Sidney was praised for tractor safety, swimming lessons, lifesaving courses, the community warning system, a blood bank, 4-H rifle safety, defensive driving, and Lite-a-Bike Day.

Parent Teacher Conferences pick up first quarter grade reports at Sidney Public Schools on Thursday and Friday November 11 and 12 with registration by last name initial. Junior and Senior High School students have assigned times while elementary conferences run concurrently at all three elementary schools.

Sydney council to vote on new overhead signals at 10th and Illinois

The Sydney City Council will finalize an agreement with the State Department of Roads to install approved overhead traffic signals at 10th and Illinois during tonight’s 7:30 meeting at City Chambers. City Manager Maynard Dils will appoint a Civil Service Commission member, and bids for paving districts and electric plant cooling upgrades will be awarded. A housing authority meeting begins at 7:15 PM.
