An independent in Shreveport Louisiana plans to drill a new wildcat in Cheyenne County about ten miles west of Sidney. The 800 acre lease, on Harvey George's land in section 8 14 51, should begin within ten days with tools arriving this weekend. Texas Company reportedly funds bottom hole logging. The site lies near a historic Potter wildcat and fourteen miles southwest of Ohio Oil Co. east Gurley pool. Past Cheyenne County tests by Roberts Brothers and others ended in salt water or abandonment.

Oil lease bids set for 11 200 acres of state lands
State board of educational lands and funds secretary Henry Bartling announced bids will be opened today for 11 200 acres of school lands across Cheyenne Perkins Morrill Banner and Kimball counties. Minimum bids of 25 cents an acre are recorded except Cheyenne County where 50 cents has been bid.

The Alliance Times-Herald reports renewed oil interest around Chadron and Dawes County though notes the information is rumor. Harry Hollingworth plans a well east of Dunlap for Amerado Company of California with seismograph tests in progress. A wildcat well on the Henkens estate land northeast of Chadron has reached 1500 feet with an Osage firm drilling. A planned but inactive Chadron area well near Beaver Valley shows prior activity. Amerado’s return would mark a significant development after earlier leasing and testing in Dawes and Sioux Counties ceased years ago.
