Pirates of Penzance to be performed by Sidney high school

Sidney high school students will stage Pirates of Penzance at the U. S. A. theatre on December 5 under Iarold B. Smith. The production features Cecil Jones as Mabel and Franklin Hornaday as Frederic, with a large chorus and orchestra. The show, a Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera, promises humor, wit, memorable tunes, and strong student performances.

District Court Opens Monday for Cheyenne County Term

The Cheyenne county district court falls term will convene Monday November 10 as a jury term with Judge J L Tessell presiding. Clerk Mrs Wasson reports 168 cases on the docket including sixteen criminal matters pending since last spring.

Pioneer Civil War Veteran Eaton Celebrates 88th Birthday

William N. Eaton, Cheyenne County pioneer and Civil War veteran, was honored at a turkey dinner hosted by Mrs. William Simms last Friday noon for his eighty eighth birthday. The event also marked Park Simms' sixteenth birthday. Guests included Sidney's remaining Civil War veterans, and all attendees had relatives in the conflict. Eaton, visiting Sidney on a ninety day furlough from Sawtelle, Cal., homesteaded in Cheyenne County thirty seven years ago last month.

Three Million Bushels Grain Shipped From County

Cheyenne county shipped about three million bushels of grain from July 1 1923 to July 1 1924 despite a small 1923 crop from rust. Burlington lines moved 1 020 carloads about 1 400 000 bushels from Lorenzo Sidney Huntsman Gurley Dalton. Union Pacific likely similar totals. Wheat shipments were decent as farmers held grain for higher prices. nearly five million bushels harvested that year. no car shortage occurred.

Carload Shipment Of Poultry Boosts Sidney Farming

Sidney becomes a live poultry shipping point as diversified farming grows. Several carloads have been shipped recently with many entries finished locally. Mrs Halslander near Sidney raised 400 turkeys this year and county flocks total hundreds, reflecting successful diversification.

Womans Club Hosts Political Issues Forum

A Sidney Woman's Club meeting featured three speakers addressing the three major parties. Guy V. Doran spoke on La Follette, C. B. Radcliffe on Davis, and R. P. Kepler on Coolidge. The event was informational, not a debate, and the club announced Bess Gearhart Morrison will recite The Fool at the Methodist church next Thursday evening, November 13, hosted by the club.

Armistice Day Festivities in Sidney Nebraska

The town will celebrate Armistice Day next Tuesday with a daylong program led by the American Legion. Businesses close from 10 a.m., parades form at Central grade school, a 11 a.m. theatre program, massed band concert, football game, chicken supper, and an evening dance. Mayor Rogers issues a proclamation honoring veterans and the war's end.
