Cheyenne County plans a large Veterans Day event in Sidney with a flag parade starting at 2 p.m. featuring participants carrying flags, floats, and organizational entries. A program at courthouse parking lot follows with Rev. Norman Hansen speaking on The Price of Patriotism.
A large Veterans Day parade in Sidney plans a 2 PM start with 29 units listed and more possible. The lineup includes color guards from American Legion Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans plus school bands, community groups, and local clubs with floats.
The Sidney Educators Club donated 356 to the Sidney United Fund on Thursday as part of the annual charity drive. Mrs. J D Olinger accepted the check for the United Fund while Miss Cheryl St Clair presented it. Wall display lists participating local business firms.
Frank Jones joins a national Wheat Institute created by Congress and signed by the president. Funded from the Wheat Inverse Subsidy Pool, the institute will pursue research on enrichment and market development and aim to change public attitudes toward wheat. Appointees include Frank Jones and others from Nebraska, North Dakota, Kansas, and South Dakota.
Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Co. of Hastings assures 301 communities across Nebraska Kansas eastern Colorado and Wyoming that a national gas shortage will not affect their supply. President Thomas Creigh Jr. says the firm has a 20 year supply based on 1989 sales and no plans to ration existing customers or accept abnormal restrictions.
The Rev. Milfred E. Douglas, 69, retired Methodist minister, died at noon after a brief hospital stay. Funeral arrangements are pending at Craig-Holechek Funeral Home. A full obituary will run in Monday's edition.
Frontier Airlines reports a third quarter net profit of 1.29 million versus 277 thousand a year earlier. Revenues reach 24.5 million, up 6.8 percent, and revenue passenger miles total 293.382 million, up 4.5 percent. For nine months, the loss before extraordinary items is 625 thousand compared with 3.878 million last year, with no extraordinary items in 1970.
County Clerk Ralph Englert says the total use of voting machines Tuesday was a great success with no major problems. A few voters needed help but at all polling places aides assisted and the election report was filed by 8 55 p m, far earlier than past all night vigils.
One of Sidney and Cheyenne County's oldest families, the Chambers, will gather at The Drake Hotel in Alliance. Eight direct members attend plus numerous relatives. the event marks the first all living Chambers since 1936. Judge C. P. Chambers was a community pioneer.
A Pebble Field well near the Nebraska Colorado line has completed for daily output of 480 barrels, among the best in Nebraska recently, per the Nebraska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. Nearby Morrill County finds include No 1 Durnal at 170 bpd and No 1 Sherlock swab tested at 16 barrels per hour with no water. Cheyenne County shows five active wells with Lenzen and 131 Govt drilling. Gear Drilling Co. to work on Federal well.
Sidney’s TV committee outlined three priorities for renewing the cable franchise. Focus remains on picture quality, sufficient engineering staff, and avoiding program duplication with Channel 3 in Sterling. The group toured the Sidney Community Cable TV Co. facility and stressed ongoing, cooperative work to improve service.
Mrs. Lucille Keller Dorwart of Nebraska will chair the Christmas Seal drive as Honorary Chairman. The nationwide campaign begins November 10 and Nebraska will mail 155,000 letters to 36 counties plus 200,000 letters in 57 other counties. Dorwart, mother of eight and Memorial Hospital nutritionist, outlines the association’s work with testing, treating, rehabilitating patients, funding research, educating the public, and promoting health. She will address the association board in Omaha on November 20.

The Gurley Lions Club will sponsor its annual pancake feed this Saturday at the Gurley School Gymnasium. Serving starts at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $1 for adults and 50 cents for children.
The first program in Rotary travel and adventure series debuts Saturday at 7 30 pm in the high school. Jonathan Hager presents Portugal with colorful scenery and a vivid tale of western Europe’s lesser known land, highlighting Portuguese resilience. Tickets: adults 6 students 3 family 15, but sales end after the first concert.
