Armistice Day Plans Set in Sidney for November 11
The American Legion in Sidney announces Armistice day events beginning with a 10 45 a m parade and cemetery ceremonies at the city auditorium main address by Hon William Patrick Miles pioneer Sidney lawyer and judge. Also on the program are Sidney band selections group singing of America led by E S Sherrerd invocations recitations and a national anthem. Legionnaires urged to attend assembly on King Street between the central and junior high schools. After the program civil war Spanish American and world war veterans will meet for the Armistice day feed in the legion hall.

Brick Thrown Through Window At Cut Rate Barber Shop
Rumblings of dissension between union and non union workers in Sidney were heard yesterday morning when an unknown person or persons hurled a brick through the plate glass window of the Central Barbershop a cut rate and non union establishment operated by John J Kiliskey. Authorities are inclined to believe the act was by a disgruntled rival, with no evidence pointing to union involvement. Union members deny any role and defend Killackey. The incident follows a period of tension as the Nebraska statewide Best Young Citizens contest advances with finalists from district four. Margaret Craig of Sidney and others prepare for final tests in Omaha under World Herald supervision. The schedule includes medical entrance tests, luncheons, entertainment, and medals for top performers.

Two Men Injured On Freight Train Near Colton
Two men named Michael Ellison and Kenneth Yogel were injured when the freight train they rode in unexpected started. Ellison suffered a back injury and other minor hurts while Yogel hurt his ankle but left the hospital after emergency care. Ellison will be confined for some time.

Northwestern Bell crews begin plant improvements from Sidney south to the Colorado line reinforcing long distance poles. Some 309 poles will be replaced and the entire line reinforced. After the long distance work, Sidney will gain enhanced facilities via cable extension in the southwest city area. This will involve placing 34 poles and 4,300 feet of cable and removing 36 poles with 2,618 feet of cable in select sections.

Beet Growers To Soon Get Payment
Western Nebraska sugar beet growers will receive about 3.5 million dollars on November 15 for deliveries through October 31. Scottsbluff district growers will get roughly 650 thousand. Ideal fall weather allowed 85 to 90 percent delivery to Great Western Sugar. Over 90 percent harvested, most beets out in a week or 10 days if weather stays good. The next payment will be December 13 for beets delivered by November 30. Nebraska yields average 13 to 14 tons per acre with sugar content higher than last year.
