About forty Sidney high school age youths gathered Tuesday evening in the city auditorium basement for an informal feed and open forum on vocations. Master of ceremonies was Chester Hanson. F A Cropper of Sidney spoke on vocational guidance as district supervisor of the National Youth Administration. American Legion Auxiliary and Mayor Roche sponsored the event with City of Sidney donating the venue and kitchen, as several local business and professional leaders attended to support the winter program.

Relief Costs Huge In State Report Shows
The state department reports 6 698 875 dollars in state and federal funds spent in the year ending June 30 with higher expenditures expected as recipients rise monthly. State funds totaled 3 657 441 mostly from liquor gas tax and estate taxes while 3 041 434 came from the federal government. Administration costs ran 229 899 for counties and 103 789 for the state. One Injury Reported On Hallowe'en Cheyenne County
Cheyenne county reports detail a single serious injury from Halloween pranks. Loy Handley, 15, of Gurley, was struck by a car driven by Burton Thompson, also of Gurley, breaking a leg. Handley was treated at Dalton by Dr. J B Pankau and sent home. Most other towns saw minor damages and few incidents. The Gurley incident occurred as Thompson turned a corner. A Halloween party at the junior high drew about 300 attendees with Lions club member Dr Leo J Thomas as chairman.

Roach Reports Satisfactory Beet Harvest Across Districts
D J Roach of Great Western Sugar says Western Nebraska beet growers are harvesting one of the three largest tonnages in the area. The district average yields about 15 tons per acre with Ger ing at 16.8 and Lyman over 16. Beets grew well until freezing weather and despite hail affecting roughly 30 000 of 55 000 acres. Sugar content runs about 15.5 percent, below the normal 16.25. Harvesting is about 85 percent complete.

Funeral services for Peter H. Brossard 53 Crook Colorado were held Thursday afternoon at Trinity Lutheran Church. Dr W T Kahse officiated with interment in Sidney Greenwood Cemetery Gehrig Funeral Home directed. Survivors include two brothers and a sister. The deceased had been in ill health for four months.

Armistice Day Program Planned in Sidney
The American Legion schedules the Armistice Day observance in Sidney for Friday November 11 with Rev J J Sheaff as principal speaker on the 26th anniversary of the armistice. Political Figure Dies, Former Nebraska Legislator
W. W. Billy Haywood, 66, Bushnell resident and former Nebraska legislator, died Monday at Kimball. A 50-year state resident and business associate of ex-treasurer W. M. Stebbins, Haywood served in 1915 and 1917 while living in Gothenburg. He moved to Bushnell in 1918 and was mayor from 1922 to 1931, active in Republican politics and a Knight Templar. He never married.
