Body of F. J. Herbert surfaced at Crescent Lake
The body of Francis J. Herbert, Sidney insurance man and community leader, was found floating at Crescent Lake near the spot of his October duck hunt. After seven months missing, a large search had given way to a memorial tribute, with Legion and Knights of Columbus members planning services on Memorial Day. The body was identified in Oshkosh and transported to Sidney for a Catholic funeral with full American Legion honors.

Royal Neighbors Hold Convention at Chappell
More than two hundred Royal Neighbors from Kimball Cheyenne and Deuel counties met in Chappell for one of the largest Western Nebraska gatherings in years. Activities opened with morning registration at the high school, a school of instruction by Laura Frymeyer, and district officer elections for 1928, followed by a banquet at 6:30 p m. The meeting adjourned as plans for next year were set.

Four Concerns Prepare for Dalton Elevator Change
The Dalton Cooperative sold its smaller elevator to Cheyenne Milling and Elevator Co, which plans a Kimball elevator this spring. The larger elevator was leased to Nebraska Colorado Grain Co, keeping four firms in the Dalton wheat market. Welsh elevator work began near the old Dalton Grain Co site, aiming to finish in about six weeks. Two tradesmen and their families moved here to reside during construction.

Maryott Convicted of Manslaughter in Albee Killing
Oshkosh painter and taxidermist Miles Maryott was found guilty of second degree murder for the killing of Oshkosh town marshal George Albee in November. President Coolidge Plans Black Hills Summer Visit

Memorial Day Observance Fitting in Sidney
Memorial Day was observed in Sidney under American Legion Post No 17 with a parade to the cemetery at nine. Graves were decorated by the auxiliary, the U S A theatre program followed prayers and a speech by I St Pindell, and the flag was lowered at seven. Business houses closed and streets remained quiet as communities honored fallen soldiers.

Former Sidney Teacher Dies in Memphis Tennessee
Miss Clara Downey longtime Sidney resident and pioneer Cheyenne county schoolteacher died May 27 at one o'clock in Memphis Tennessee at age 80 years 9 months and 22 days. She was sister of Mrs Ophelia Johnson and aunt of Claude M Johnson of Sidney. Her many western Nebraska friends mourn her passing.

Commencement Week Marks Closing Of Sidney Schools
The Sidney High School graduation was held at the Methodist church auditorium with 32 graduates. The program featured a salutatory by Miss Mable Foster, a vocal solo by Frances Burgess, and valedictory by Viola Foster, followed by a Glee Club number and an address by Attorney Edward Shoemaker. The St Patrick's Academy celebration followed with 31 graduates, highlighting a large turnout and strong performances led by Agnes Dwyer and Lenora Cortney.
