Bell Telephone builds new lines to summer White House

Bell system crews and material rush to string over a thousand miles of copper wire and install cross arms between Sidney Nebraska and Rapid City to serve President Coolidge and his party during the South Dakota summer visit. The project includes a private Rapid City exchange, multiple wire strands, and an estimated cost above 250000 with three hundred workers mobilized.

Lorenzo High School Commencement Festivities Noted

Last week Lorenzo High School held its commencement activities for the year with Bernice Williams as the sole graduate. A senior banquet on May 18 featured Williams as guest of honor with toasts from several classmates. Dalton Couple Principles in Marriage on Wednesday

Chester Martin and Imogene Woods of Dalton Nebraska were granted a marriage license last Tuesday by County Judge Elmer Kahl and wed Wednesday by Reverend N Harden of the Dalton Presbyterian church. The couple, popular locals, will reside in Dalton where Martin works as a bookkeeper.

Former Sidney Girl to Marry Illinois Man

Word has been received of the approaching marriage of Miss Margaret Frances Beebe to Robert Holt Carpenter of Winnetka Illinois on June 16 at the Winnetka Congregational church. Miss Beebe aged 18 is the daughter of Dr and Mrs F C Beebe of Twin Falls Idaho and lived in Sidney with her parents some years ago.

Death of Infant in Sidney Area

The infant child of Mr and Mrs Peter Lensen of southeast Sidney died Monday evening. Funeral services were held Tuesday at two o clock at the Lensen home with Rev Father Link of St Patrick s Catholic church officiating. Burial occurred in the Catholic cemetery. Gebhrig Wright funeral home handled arrangements. Also noted an east bound mail line from Cheyenne to Omaha forced to land at Sidney field early Thursday morning due to fog.

Life Imprisonment Given Miles Maryott by Judge Carter

Miles Maryott a noted painter and sportsman was sentenced to life imprisonment by District Judge Carter in Bridgeport after a Morrill county jury convicted him of second degree murder in the death of Town Marshal George Albee of Oshkosh. The judge ordered November 24 each year in solitary confinement. Maryott had sought a venue change from Garden county claiming potential bias. No appeal will be filed.

Denver Tram Head Dies Former U P Officer Ernest Stenger

Ernest Stenger aged 62, president of the Denver Tramway, died in Denver after a pneumonia illness. A native of France, he held major railroad posts including general superintendent of the Rio Grande Western in 1907, general manager of the St Joseph Grand Island, and Union Pacific roles. He served in World War I with the A E F as lieutenant colonel of the 92nd division.

Last sad rites observed Tuesday for dead soldier

Francis J Herbert of Sidney is mourned after his body was recovered from Crescent lake seven months after a boat capsized in a storm last October 20. A full Catholic funeral was held at St Patrick's with a large procession and military honors. Herbert, born May 17 1893, married Gertrude Katherine, served for his country, and was honored by the Knights of Columbus American Legion and local citizens.
