Union Pacific officials discuss local grade crossing problem in Sidney
Officials from Union Pacific met Sidney representatives to review costs for a subway or viaduct at the 11th street crossing. Estimates reached 325000 for a subway and 350000 for a viaduct, far above local expectations. Sidney offered to cover drainage and approaches if the railroad would handle construction, while proposing westward switching to shorten the subway. The city will have surveys and drafts prepared to reassess the plan and pursue a more economical solution.
