Memorial day tribute honors Q A R veteran Charles Hower born 1842 in Gerardsville Penn who joined the 19th Pennsylvania Cavalry with Sherman’s campaigns. He survived Stone River Murfreesboro and Chattanooga though never scratched, lives in Sidney with four children and 20 grandchildren and will salute all veterans including Spanish American War and World War I heroes.

Rev Samuel Light Dead in Washington
News of the death of Rev. Samuel Light, longtime pastor of Sidney Presbyterian Church, reached Sidney from Fox Island Washington where he had been treated for illness after a partial stroke. He organized the Sidney church about ten years ago and served faithfully before his retirement last fall.

Former Cheyenne County Pioneer Carl Wagoner 1857 1940
Carl A. Wagoner prominent Cheyenne county pioneer died at Alliance at 6 p.m. Wednesday May 23 following years of poor health. Born December 14, 1857 in West Lafayette Ohio he moved with his parents to Nebraska in 1864. He settled near Broadwater in 1884 and married Mary Ann Durell in 1881. Burial was at Broadwater May 26 with Episcopal rites led by Bishop.
