City Council Approves Building Permits Over Fifty Thousand
The Sidney City Council met briefly and approved building permits totaling more than $50,000 marking the start of the spring building season. Major permit went to Carter Of Co. for a $21,000 service station at 20th and West Illinois. Jim Wagner plans a $14,500 residence in Country Club Heights, Kokjer Motor Co. requests an $11,000 office at Ith and Jackson, with numerous remodeling jobs listed. A homeowner’s porch enclosure permit for 1116 Quince was tabled to inspect the property. Delegations from Sky Manor and the West exremities school land addition urged sidewalk construction, road improvements, and removal of unsightly buildings. The city also received auditing quotes from Witthoff and McIntosh for the 1958 audit, not to exceed $1,250 citywide and $1,425 if Sioux Villa Housing Authority books are included.

The Nebraska Lions annual convention in Hastings named five district governors and set Falls City as the 1959 site. Mike Holmstedt of Sutherland was elected Lions Governor of District 38 N, with past service in Sutherland Lions Club as vice-president, president, and secretary-treasurer. He works with Cornhusker Tractor and Equipment in North Platte. his wife Mary and their three children are Mary Ann, James, and Constance. William Haines of Loup City was elected president of the international counselors organization. R F Easter of North Platte is vice president, and Herbert Roeser of Grand Island was re-elected secretary-treasurer. A committee to study the constitution and by-laws includes Swaim, Blair. Moved to Bushnell 1908 married Elsa Jane Taylor March 20 1913. survived by wife and two brothers Jacob P and Charles E both of Blakesburg Iowa. preceded in death by son in 1918.

Methodist Get Green Light On Construction Plans

Mailman Cow and Bridge Crash Near Gurley
Earl V. Lessig, 45, of Gurley, a rural mail carrier, collided with a Slack Angus cow on a gravel road near a bridge south of Gurley. His 1953 station wagon rolled over once, damaging the car $350, the bridge $15, and the cow $250, which was destroyed. Lessig escaped with minor injuries.
