Memorial Day services across area honor fallen soldiers

Memorial Day services are set Monday throughout the area with programs at Greenwood Cemetery Lodgepole Pleasant View Cemetery Dalton and Devel County High School. Speakers include Rev Franklin Witter Rev George Wheat Rev John Munson and Harold Steele, with parades, band performances, memorial prayers, wreath laying, and firing squads. Three juveniles are in custody on auto theft charges after a pursuit spanning Wyoming and Nebraska, with help from Kimball police and Nebraska State Patrol.

Soviets Blast Chinese Reds in Sharp Protest Note

Rainfall brings welcome inches across Panhandle areas

Rain fell across the Panhandle with 0.84 inches in Sidney boosting the monthly total to 2.46 inches. Farther north and west the storm dumped up to three inches with hail, hitting Melbeta Cheyenne County and nearby towns as County Agent Henschel logged 0.91 inches near Dalton, while the High Plains Agricultural Lab recorded 0.63 inches. Chappell 0.61, Kimball 0.24, and Scottsbluff 0.14 inches.

Pony Express ride raises 1600 for Easter Seals in Panhandle

Saddie Club members from Scottsbluff to North Platte rode the Easter Seals Pony Express Ride ending in Sidney with a dinner and dance at the Cheyenne County 4-H Building. Woodsmoke Combo supplied music while Alpha Nu Sorority volunteers served. Funds from the event totalled 1600 to support Easter Seals Camp Kiwanis.

Memorial Day program at Cheyenne County veterans memorial

Memorial Day services will begin at 10 30 a m Monday at the Cheyenne County veterans memorial near Greenwood Cemetery. John Underdown acts as master of ceremonies with Rev. Franklin Witter delivering the address. Sponsored by American Legion Post 17 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 610. The 1974 memorial sits within a fenced green area with a podium and well kept lawn.

Lowe and Dils to be honored in Sidney ceremony

The Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce and Sidney City Council unite to honor Jack H Lowe, named Master Editor Publisher of the year by the Nebraska Press Association, and Maynard Dils, Sidney city manager who has resigned. A 6 30 p.m. dinner will be held at the Sidney Country Club with chamber leaders and city officials.
